AIMIM chief Owaisi takes oath as Lok Sabha MP with "...Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine"

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday concluded taking his oath as a member of the Lok Sabha with the words "Jai Palestine".

Owaisi defeated BJP's Madhavi Latha Kompella with a margin of 3,38,087 votes in the recent parliamentary election for a fifth consecutive victory from Hyderabad in Telangana.

While being sworn is as an MP in the 18th Session of the Lok Sabha, Owaisi ended his oath with the words, "Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine."

Taking to his official X handle, Owaisi posted, "Sworn in as a member of Lok Sabha for the fifth time. Inshallah, I will continue to raise issues of India's marginalised with sincerity."

Speaking with ANI, Owaisi said, "Everyone is saying a lot of things... I just said "Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine"...How it is against, show the provision in the Constitution?"

On being asked the reason for saying 'Jai Palestine', Owaisi said, "Waha ki awaam mahroom hai (The people there are destitute). Mahatma Gandhi has said so many things regarding Palestine and one can go and read."

Uttar Pradesh former Chief Minister and BSP Chief Mayawati on Tuesday came down heavily on ruling party and opposition and claimed that both of them, through amendments, have made the Constitution casteist, communalist, and capitalist (jatiwad, sampradayik, aur poonjiwad).

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Mayawati alleged that the ruling, as well as, the opposition parties are two sides of the same coin (ek hi thali ke chatte-batte), adding that both the BJP and Congress divert public attention from pressing issues like unemployment and poverty.

"There is no doubt that the government and the opposition inside the Parliament and outside by showing the copies of the Constitution are two sides of the same coin (ek hi thali ke chatte-batte). Even their mindset seems the same."

Voice of people stifled to save chair of few during Emergency: Scindia

Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday targeted Congress over the imposition of Emergency 49 years ago and claimed the voice of 80 crore people was stifled to save the chair of select people.

Speaking to reporters in Guna on the 49th anniversary of the Emergency, Scindia said June 25 is remembered as the "black day" in the history of the country.

"Today is remembered as the black day as those elements had throttled the voice of 80 crore people to save their chair," said Scindia, a career Congress politician who quit the party in March 2020 and joined BJP.

On the maiden visit to Guna after winning the recent Lok Sabha election on the BJP ticket, Scindia said the electoral outcome has further strengthened democracy and the Constitution is being protected.

"The NDA (National Democratic Alliance) worships this 'granth" (Constitution)," he said.

Amid slogans of Bharat Jodo, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took the oath as a member of the Lok Sabha this afternoon with a copy of the Indian Constitution in his hand.

INDIA bloc has picked Kodikunnil Suresh, an eight-time Congress MP from Kerala, for the position of Lok Sabha speaker. Currently serving his eighth term, Suresh is a Dalit leader from Kerala. However, a breakdown in negotiations between the NDA and the Opposition led to his candidacy for the speaker’s position.

On June 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge were engaged in a battle of attrition over the imposition of Emergency in 1975 and strident appeals to protect democracy. The opposition staged a protest march inside Parliament complex, with MPs of the INDIA bloc raising slogans on "saving democracy" and displaying copies of the Constitution. The session began under the shadow of the NEET controversy and cancellation of UGC-NET exam, the terror attacks in Kashmir, West Bengal train accident, and the Tamil Nadu liquor tragedy. The INDIA bloc-led Opposition is likely to corner the government on these issues, besides focusing on unemployment and price rise.

On June 24, PM Modi took oath as member of the 18th Lok Sabha. PM Modi returned to power for a third consecutive term earlier this month. BJP member B Mahtab took oath as the Pro-Tem Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha on monday morning. NDA has a majority in the house with 293 seats, with BJP having 240 seats while the INDIA bloc has 234 seats.
