31 out of 50 constituent stocks of Nifty50 ended lower, dragged by Wipro, Coal India, ONGC, Hindalco, and LTIMindtree with losses of up to 3.05 per cent. Meanwhile, Asian Paints, Grasim Industries, Hindustan Unilever, UltraTech Cement, and Sun Pharma led the gains of up to 2.50 per cent among the other constituent stocks on the index.
Similarly, on the BSE, 19 out of 30 listed stocks of Sensex ended in the red, dragged by Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, and Axis Bank with a fall of up to 1.29 per cent. Meanwhile, Asian Paints, Hindustan Unilever, and Ultratech Cement were among 11 stocks that ended with gains of up to 2.39 per cent.
Broader indices also settled lower except for select Midcap, and Smallcap stocks. The Nifty Smallcap index hit a record high during intra-day deals; however, it retreated to end on a flat note.
Among the sector indices, IT, PSU Bank, Auto, Financial Services, and Metal led the losses with a fall of up to 1.69 per cent, while FMCG, Pharma, Media, Realty, and Healthcare eked out gains of up to 1.09 per cent.
The Bank Nifty index snapped its four-session gaining streak, dragged down by Federal Bank, and Bank of Baroda, which led the losses.
The Nifty IT index declined for the second session, mainly dragged down by Wipro. Meanwhile, the Nifty PSU Bank index also declined for the second session, with Bank of India, and Punjab Sind Bank being the top sectoral losers.
