Stock Market Highlights, Wednesday, September 25, 2024: Benchmark indices BSE Sensex, and NSE Nifty50 reversed early losses and scaled new highs before ending Wednesday’s trading session at record-high closing levels.
The Sensex added as much as 255.83 points or 0.30 per cent to settle at 85,169.87. The index scaled a record high of 85,247.42 during intraday trade.
Mirroring the Sensex, Nifty50 touched an all-time high of 26,032.80 before ending Wednesday’s session with a gain of 63.75 points or 0.25 per cent at 26,004.15.
30 out of 50 constituent stocks on Nifty50 ended higher with gains led by Power Grid Corporation, Axis Bank, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, and Grasim Industries, of up to 4.04 per cent. Conversely, LTIMindtree, Tech Mahindra, Tata Consumer Products, Tata Motors, and Titan Company were among the 20 stocks that ended in the red with losses of up to 3.69 percent.
Broader indices ended lower with Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices ending down by 0.63 percent and 0.42 percent, respectively.
The fear index, India VIX, ended 7.37 per cent lower at 12.41.
20 out of 30 constituent stocks of the BSE Sensex ended in the green, with Power Grid Corporation, Axis Bank, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, and Bajaj Finance leading gains of up to 3.9 percent. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra, Tata Motors, Titan, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and State Bank of India were among the 10 stocks that ended in the red with losses of up to 2.21 per cent.
Media stocks outperformed the other sectoral indices as the Nifty Media Index ended higher by 2.94 per cent. Bank Nifty, Financial Services, Metal, Pharma, Private Bank, and Realty indices ended higher, while PSU Bank, IT, FMCG, and Auto indices settled in the red on Wednesday.
