Stock Market Highlights, Thursday, September 26, 2024: Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 extended their northward march for another day, scaling fresh peaks before ending Thursday's trading session at record-high closing levels.
The Sensex added as much as 666.25 points, or 0.78 per cent, to settle at 85,836.12. The index conquered a new peak of 85,930.43, just 70 points shy of 86,000, during intraday trade.
Nifty50 also joined the rally, scaling an all-time high of 26,250.90 before ending Thursday's session with a gain of 211.90 points, or 0.81 per cent, at 26,216.05.
Thursday ended in favour of the bulls, as many as 41 out of 50 constituent stocks of Nifty50 ended in the green, with the gains led by Maruti Suzuki India, Grasim Industries, Tata Motors, Shriram Finance, and Bajaj Finserv, with gains of up to 4.48 per cent. Conversely, Cipla, ONGC, Larsen & Toubro, Hero MotoCorp, and NTPC were among the 9 stocks that ended lower, with a loss of up to 1.47 per cent.
Among the broader indices, Midcap stocks ended in the green with the Nifty Midcap 100 index ending higher by 0.10 per cent. The Nifty Smallcap 100 index, on the other hand, ended in the red, down 0.50 per cent.
The fear index, India VIX, ended 7.12 per cent lower at 11.84.
Auto and Metal indices outperformed the other sectoral indices, each ending over 2 per cent higher. The remaining sectoral indices also ended higher, barring Consumer Durables, and select Healthcare.
