Amritsar (Punjab), Oct 12 (ANI): Farmers in Punjab started burning the residue after harvesting paddy in the autumn to clear the fields as they don't have any other option. A farmer from Punjab's Amritsar said, "Punjab government does not give them any option by which they can clear the agricultural crop residues." Every year between October and November, air quality deteriorates in Delhi and its neighbouring states, as farmers burn the residue after harvesting paddy to clear the fields and make way for the sowing of wheat, despite there being a ban on burning agricultural residue. The National Green Tribunal in the order passed on (10.12.2015), directed and prohibited agricultural residue burning in any part of the NCT of Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
