Following a 2-2 draw in regulation time, the Indian women's hockey team lost 4-3 in a shootout to Germany, meaning they are still one win away from qualifying for the Olympics in Paris. India will now play Japan on Friday night in the third-place playoff.

45th minute: GERMANY MISSES OUT ON A BEAUTYFUL CHANCE! A clean trap would have given Stapenhorst an open goal to shoot at, but she misses it. Stapenhorst does fantastically on the end line and then cuts it back wonderfully towards Lorenz, who skews her shot wide. Baljeet, whose duty it was to remain with Stapenhorst, has Savita in a rage.

It was reverse of what has happened in the first half. All Germany attack in the third quarter. Though Germany failed to break the deadlock.

Third quarter begins with nothing to seperate between the two teams. Germany faltered in the midfield during the first half.

2nd quarter: Germany score the equaliser

27th minute: GOAAALLLLLL.... Germany score the equaliser against the run of play. India were dominatiing in the mid-field but a loose ball at the top of circle allow the Germans to level the score.

After selling Udita a sensational dummy, Charlotte Stapenhorst waits for Savita to fall and simply dumps it over her. That's proper individual brilliance, but Germany seemed to be lacking ideas on how to subdue India, so they needed that spurt of inspiration.
