Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday asserted that Bhim Rao Ambedkar's dream of justice for all was becoming a reality in the current times with the government ensuring basic facilities to people living in the remotest corners. He noted that when basic facilities reach the most distant villages, it becomes the foundation for justice, and the Narendra Modi government is doing just that. Providing basic amenities to every nook and corner of the country, including the Northeastern region, was previously not considered to be possible, he said. Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the platinum jubilee celebration of Gauhati High Court, Rijiju said, We are paying tribute to the architect of our Constitution, Babasaheb Ambedkar, on his birth anniversary today. His emphasis was on justice when he set about to draft the Constitution and it became a part of the Preamble also, he added, mentioning Justice: economic, social, political'. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao unveiled the 125-ft tall statue of B R Ambedkar here on Friday, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the architect of the Constitution, on a grand scale. Flower petals were showered on the statute from a helicopter, paying rich tributes to Ambedkar. The statue was built using 360 tonnes of stainless steel and 114 tonnes of bronze, at a cost of Rs 146.50 crore. Rao had earlier said the India's tallest statue of Ambedkar, which is next to the State Secretariat, and located beside the Telangana Martyrs memorial, will inspire people every day and motivate the entire State administration.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was a luminary who gave voice to the deprived sections of the society. He hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for realising Babasaheb's dream and vision while others only did politics in his name. On the birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday took a swipe at the government, saying the "culture of forcing silence" and branding people "anti-nationals" is a dangerous trend that will finish our democracy and destroy the Constitution. In his message on Ambedkar Jayanti, Kharge also alleged that Parliament has been converted into an arena of combat rather than debate, and not by the opposition, but by the ruling party. He recalled that Ambedkar had warned about the ills of 'hero-worship' or 'Bhakti' in the context of Indian politics. Launching a scathing attack on the government on B R Ambedkar's birth anniversary, former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Friday alleged that the regime in power is "misusing and subverting" the institutions of the Constitution, and the people must act to defend the Constitution from this "systematic assault". The construction of B R Ambedkar statue at PWD Grounds in Vijayawada, expected to be completed by July, may touch Rs 400 crore, said Andhra Pradesh Minister Merugu Nagarjuna on Tuesday. The amount spent for the 125-feet tall statue has already reached Rs 380 crore from Rs 268 crore and the State government will not back off how much ever be the cost, the Minister for Social Welfare said. "Unlike the previous TDP government which planned to build the statue in a nondescript place at Rs 100 crore, our government under Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has allotted a plot worth hundreds of crore of rupees," asserted Nagarjuna in a statement. Besides the statue, the Minister said Rs 106 crore additional funds, including Rs 6 crore from the Municipal department, were allotted for more buildings around the memorial of the architect of the Indian Constitution. He said the construction work at the site is progressing day in and out in conjunction with a similar project going on in Haryana.
