Wheels India Ltd, a manufacturer of wheels for trucks, passenger vehicles and construction equipment, after witnessing market opportunities in the exports segment, expects to double its hydraulics business over the next two-three years, a top official said. The contribution from the hydraulics business to Wheels India Ltd is currently at Rs 150 crore, company managing director Srivats Ram said. "There are a lot of export opportunities in the hydraulics business and we are expanding to meet the global requirements. We are a supplier to a manufacturer in Europe and North America... We are confident of doubling the hydraulics business in the next 2-3 years from the current level of over Rs 150 crore," Ram said, while declaring the company's financial performance here. With falling lithium-ion battery prices, electric vehicles can now maintain cost without subsidies but it is for the finance and heavy industries ministries to decide if incentives need to be given to electric vehicles, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday. Speaking at the annual session of Automotive Components Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said within two years, the cost of EVs will be the same with their petrol and diesel counterparts. "First of all, I am not against any subsidies. With the country moving towards becoming a USD 35 trillion economy by 2047, the manufacturing sector is rapidly adopting automation which is expected to increase recruitment of women, helping companies become more inclusive, a TeamLease Services senior executive has said. "These companies have begun adopting automation in phases in these male-dominated sectors and have started recruitment of women. We expect that with the increase in adoption of automation in these industries, companies will recruit more and more women going forward," TeamLease Services Chief Strategy Officer Subburathinam P told PTI. The government is conducting a pilot project for an automatic number plate recognition system with a view to reducing traffic congestion at toll plazas and charging vehicle owners for the exact distance of cars driven on the tolled highways, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday. Addressing an event organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Gadkari said the government wants to develop India's public transport system on electricity. "The ministry of road transport and highways is conducting a pilot project of automatic number plate recognition system (Automatic Number Plate Reader cameras) to enable automated toll collection without stopping the vehicles. "With this new technology, we want to achieve two objectives--free flow of traffic on toll booths and pay as per your use," he said, without giving further details.
