The teams drew the first leg 1-1 last Tuesday. Also, Stuttgart was held to 2-2 by Holstein Kiel, and Wolfsburg drew with St Pauli 1-1. Both needed a win to keep pace with Mainz, which won Friday to boost its qualification prospects. Wirtz injured ======== Leverkusen's loss its second blow this week after Wednesday's 3-0 defeat
Perhaps Manuel Neuer should stick to stopping goals. The Bayern Munich goalkeeper injured himself while celebrating a goal during his team's 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Wednesday. It led to the 21-year-old Jonas Urbig, a winter signing from Cologne, going on to make his Bayern debut. Neuer went off with what looked like a right ankle injury in the 58th minute, shortly after celebrating Jamal Musiala's goal Bayern's second on the night with a little jump near the halfway line. "It happens sometimes," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said. "It's a pity for us, but we've always talked about the squad. that's how we've come so far, in the league and where we are, and that's how it's going to stay. If it's Urbig, it's Urbig and we're not going to worry about it." Urbig had little to do as Bayern maintained its dominance of the game. The visitors had Nordi Mukiele sent off with a second yellow card and Harry Kane made it 3-0 from the penalty spot to score his
Bayer Leverkusen kept pace with Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich by beating Hoffenheim 3-1 when Victor Boniface made his long-awaited comeback. Boniface scored with his first shot at goal since his proposed move to Saudi team Al-Nassr collapsed. The Nigeria forward started for his first game since early November after recovering from a thigh injury. He needs game time. He's focused and we need him for the second half of the season. We need the whole squad, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso said of Boniface, who played the first half before making way for Patrik Schick before the second. Leverkusen finished with 10 players after lex Grimaldo's sending off with half an hour to play. New signings Emiliano Buenda and Mario Hermoso made their debuts as Alonso's team stayed six points behind Bayern two weeks before the top two clash in Leverkusen. Bayern defeated Holstein Kiel on Saturday. Boniface scored in the 15th minute with a shot that Hoffenheim 'keeper Luca Philipp should arguably have
Bayern Munich says Harry Kane has strained his right hamstring and will be out for the time being. Kane went off after signalling to the bench in the 33rd minute of Bayern's 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund in the German Klassiker on Saturday. Bayern said Sunday that a scan confirmed the England captain picked up a minor muscle strain in his right hamstring and didn't indicate how long he is likely to spend on the sidelines. Kane's injury comes ahead of a busy run of games for Bayern, which plays six games in the next three weeks before the winter break, starting with a tricky German Cup game on Tuesday at home to defending champion Bayer Leverkusen. Kane has continued his proflic form with 14 goals in 12 Bundesliga games for the 33-time national champion this season, with 20 goals across all competitions. Overall, he has 64 goals in 64 matches for the Bavarian powerhouse since joining last season from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. The 31-year-old is England's record score
Harry Kane scored his 15th goal of the season as Bayern Munich eased to a 5-0 win over Bochum in the Bundesliga to lift some of the gloom from its heavy midweek loss at Barcelona. Jamal Musiala scored a header and set up Kane's goal in Musiala's first start since Oct. 2 following a hip injury in a win that looked like a return to business as usual for Bayern following one win from its previous five games in all competitions. We just want to take a step forward in every game and we enjoy scoring goals, Musiala told broadcaster DAZN. Of the 4-1 loss to Barcelona on Wednesday, he added: It was really bitter and it hurt us, but we're looking ahead." Michael Olise got Bayern started when he lofted a free kick over the wall and into the net in the 16th minute, before Musiala headed in for 2-0 soon after. Musiala dribbled past a defender and passed for Kane to score in the 57th. The England captain has nine Bundesliga goals this season, making him the league's joint-top scorer with Eintra
Harry Kane ended his brief goal drought with a hat trick to help Bayern Munich beat Stuttgart 4-0 in the Bundesliga on Saturday. As a striker, sometimes there's a lot of talk when you go a little spell without scoring, Kane said. That's just part and parcel of being a striker. You can't get too high or too low. I believe in myself and my ability. I believe in my teammates who create chances. Kane, who hadn't scored in four games three for Bayern and one for England missed good chances before finally ending his barren spell with a shot from distance in the 57th minute. Kane grabbed his second just four minutes later after seeing another shot saved by Alexander Nbel then missed another good chance before sealing his hat trick in the 80th with the rebound from a Joo Palhinha effort. Bayern Munich and Manchester City extended their winning starts in the Women's Champions League group stage, while Arsenal and Barcelona rebounded from early-season setbacks with big victories. One day after Arsenal's coach Jonas Eidevall resigned, the team took just one minute to score in a 4-1 win over Norwegian team Vlerenga. United States defender Emily Fox's goal after exactly 60 seconds set Arsenal on its way for interim manager Rene Slegers. Arsenal lost 5-2 in Munich one week ago and Bayern impressed again, winning a rain-soaked game 2-0 at Juventus. The statement win last week was Man City beating Barcelona, but the two-time defending champion was back in dominant form in a 9-0 drubbing of Sweden's Hammarby. Man City rallied from an uneasy spell either side of halftime at St. Plten to win 3-2 in Austria, sealed by an 80th-minute header by Mary Fowler. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund were both handed potentially tricky games against fellow Bundesliga teams in the second-round draw for the German Cup. Bayern heads to Mainz, while Dortmund visits Wolfsburg, in the games to be played either Oct. 29 or 30. There are two other all-Bundesliga games as Leipzig hosts promoted St. Pauli and Eintracht Frankfurt plays Borussia Moenchengladbach. Bayer Leverkusen, which won the league and cup double last season, hosts second-division Elversberg. Leverkusen was knocked out in the first round by Elversberg in 2022. Staniic tore a ligament in his right knee during a practice session Monday and will be "sidelined for several weeks, Bayern said. Bayern starts its Bundesliga campaign on Sunday at Wolfsburg and is seeking to reclaim the title from Bayer Leverkusen, where Staniic spent last season on loan. Staniic is likely to miss two Croatia games in the UEFA Nations League, at Portugal on Sept. 5 and home to Poland three days later. Bayern also plays the first two rounds of the expanded Champions League opening league phase scheduled from Sept. 17-19 and Oct. 1-2. The draw for each team's eight games will be made next week in Monaco.

Florian Wirtz scored a hat trick as Leverkusen routed Werder Bremen 5-0 and the game ended with a pitch invasion Sunday to secure the club's first-ever German league title with five games remaining. It's indescribable ... I don't think it's possible, or I personally can't even realize it yet, Wirtz told broadcaster DAZN. I need a little more time in the locker room to really get my head around what we've achieved. But yeah, so far it's just been nice to party outside with the fans and also have a bit of a party in the locker room. Fans had already stormed onto the field when Leverkusen scored its fourth goal with seven minutes to go, and
