The Sikkim government on Wednesday announced a 100 per cent concession on bus fares for persons with over 40 per cent disability and women in the BPL category, an official notification said. The order issued by the state transport department said that the facility can be availed of in both intra and inter-state services effective immediately. To avail of the concession, PWDs (persons with disability) must produce a valid Unique Disability ID card issued by the Centre, certifying 40 per cent or above degree of disability. Women in the BPL category must produce a BPL certificate issued by Directorate of Economics, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation (DESME), the order added.

Widening its probe into the alleged benami assets amassed by slain gangster-politican Atiq Ahmad, the Income Tax department has issued fresh summons to a BPL cardholder security guard, who allegedly held about six land parcels worth crores in Uttar Pradesh, and recorded the statements of those linked to him. An Income Tax department team also reached the home of the security guard -- Suraj Pal -- in Prayagraj district's Pipalgaon and handed over the summons issued in his name to his family members. Pal is stated to be absconding and, according to the statement given to the department by his daughter, the family does know his whereabouts. As Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to launch Direct Benefit Transfer under the Anna Bhagya scheme on Monday, about 22 lakh families living Below Poverty Line (BPL) may not get the assistance immediately as they do not have bank accounts. Karnataka has 1.28 crore ration card of Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Households and 99 per cent of these cards are seeded with Aadhaar numbers. Among them, 82 per cent comprising 1.06 crore of these cards are linked with active bank accounts. The cash will be transfered to those card holders. The remaining card holders will be intimated to open new accounts," an official statement said on Sunday. A total of 1.27 crore ration cards have one member designated as Head of the Households (HoH). "Cash will be transferred to the bank accounts of these HoH. As the Karnataka government is facing difficulty in procuring large quantities of rice required to fulfil its poll guarantee, it has decided to pay beneficiaries cash at the rate of Rs 34 per kilo, for the additional 5kg of the foodgrain promised under the 'Anna Bhagya' scheme. Families below the poverty line (BPL) and beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme in Rajasthan will now get LPG cylinders for Rs 500, with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot approving a financial proposal of Rs 750 crore, according to an official statement. The financial proposal pertained to the 'Chief Minister Gas Cylinder' scheme, it said. This approval will benefit more than 73 lakh families in the state. Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries will be able to get one cylinder per month at a cheaper rate starting from April 1, the statement said. The statement said that a subsidy of Rs 410 per gas cylinder will be given by the state government to the families having a gas connection under the Ujjwala scheme. Subsidy of Rs 610 per gas cylinder will be payable to BPL families, it said. Twelve lakh families have been added to the 'below poverty line' (BPL) category after Haryana government increased the annual income criteria for it, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Monday. Khattar also said that special camps would be organized at the district, block, and village levels to update the details of the families having the 'Parivar Pehchan Patra' (family ID card). He said that 'Parivar Pehchan Patra' (PPP) is the flagship scheme of the state government to ensure the reach of welfare schemes at the grassroot levels. The chief minister said that while taking care of the poor families, the state government had increased the annual income limit of BPL families from Rs 1.20 lakh to Rs 1.80 lakh. Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Monday announced Rs 1 lakh relief to each family under Below Poverty Line (BPL) which has lost an earning or adult member due to COVID-19."Several families are in trouble due to COVID-19. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced that the state government will bear all expenses of COVID-19 patients belonging to below poverty line (BPL) category undergoing treatment in private hospitals. Earlier, the state government had announced financial assistance of up to Rs 35,000 to BPL patients.
