Buffalo meat prices have surged by over 14 per cent in the last one week due to lower availability of animals for slaughtering amid government's order to ban on their sale.Around the national capital, buffalo meat is sold at Rs 150-160 a kg now, a rise of Rs 15-20 in the last one week. This means, buffalo meat was available normally between Rs 135-140 a kg before the government notification banning sale of animals for slaughtering issued on May 24.While the ban on animals' sale for slaughtering intended to control mushrooming of unregistered slaughtering houses in the country in addition to prevent their cross-border sale, the local meat and leather industries with an accumulative exports of $10 billion are likely to get impacted badly. Apart from that, millions of skilled and unskilled workers across the two industries are going to be jobless with just one regulation."Buffalo meat prices are quoted today at Rs around Rs 160 a kg here which indicates a rise of Rs 20 about a week ago. .
