Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar has said that for a large, connected nation like India, deepfakes and misinformation represent a "very problematic issue" for conducting safe, free and fair elections. With respect to tackling deepfakes and misinformation, he said social media platforms are under watch on remedial actions they take in next 7-10 days on 'advisories' issued by the government. The minister also promised that inaction on their part may prompt amendment to the IT Rules that will be more "prescriptive". An attempt was made on the life of ruling BRS MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy by a 38-year-old man who allegedly stabbed him with a knife in Siddipet district on Monday, police said. The incident took place in Surampalli village of Doulthabad mandal when Prabhakar Reddy, (59), who has been fielded by BRS from Dubbak segment for the November 30 assembly elections, was campaigning, they said. The accused identified as Raju was taken into custody following the incident and a case was registered against him, they said adding the motive behind the attack is under investigation. Prabhakar Reddy, who is an MP from Medak Lok Sabha constituency, suffered injuries in his stomach and was shifted to a hospital in Hyderabad after initially being rushed to a hospital in Gajwel of Siddipet district. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao visited Prabhakar Reddy later in the evening. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday will distribute Podu land (shift cultivation) documents to beneficiaries in Asifabad and also address a public meeting there, official sources said. Chandrasekhar Rao, also known as KCR, will reach the Komuram Bheem Asifabad district headquarters at 1 PM and unveil the statue of Gond martyr and Telangana fighter Komuram Bheem. After paying floral tributes to the statue, he will inaugurate District BRS Party office building and unveil a statue of Kotnak Bheem Rao and pay floral tributes The Chief Minister will inaugurate the District Police Office building complex and also Integrated District Offices complex and address employees. He will return to Hyderabad after addressing a public meeting. Rao had earlier said the state government will distribute four lakh acres of 'Podu' land titles to 1.5 lakh beneficiaries.
Ruling BRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday left for a visit to Solapur in Maharashtra. Rao, who was travelling by road in a massive convoy of about 600 vehicles, was accompanied by state ministers, MPs, MLCs, MLAs and party senior leaders, an official release said. During his two-day visit to Maharashtra, Rao would reportedly offer prayers at Lord Vitthal temple at Pandharpur town near Solapur and at Goddess Tulja Bhavani temple at Osmanabad and also attend an event where a popular leader from NCP would join the BRS. After renaming the TRS as BRS in December last year, Rao, also known as KCR, has been making efforts to strengthen the party in neighbouring Maharashtra. He has addressed public meetings at Nanded and other places in Maharashtra, highlighting his 'Telangana model' of development. Several activists and leaders from NCP and other parties in Maharashtra joined the BRS during the last six months.
