The campaigning for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh is heating up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled to address rallies over the next three days. Shah will address a public meeting in Kanker Lok Sabha constituency in the Bastar region on Monday, said BJP state media co-incharge Anurag Agrawal. PM Modi will address campaign rallies on April 23 and 24 in Sarguja, Mahasamund, and Janjgir-Champa Lok Sabha constituencies, he added. Polling will be held for Rajnandgaon, Mahasamund, and Kanker seats in the second phase on April 26. Congress candidate and former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday filed his nomination from Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat in Chhattisgarh and expressed confidence that voters in the constituency will make him emerge victorious. The seat is currently held by Bharatiya Janata Party's Santosh Pandey, who defeated Congress' Bholaram Sahu by a margin of 1,11, 966 votes in 2019. The BJP has renominated Pandey from the seat. The Congress in Chhattisgarh has pinned its hopes on experienced leaders for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as its first list of six candidates included former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, two former state ministers and a sitting MP. The party released its first list of 39 candidates nationwide on Friday. In Chhattisgarh, where it lost power to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the last year's assembly polls, the Congress announced candidates for six out of 11 Lok Sabha seats. Four of them are from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and one belongs to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. The Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday decided to launch a scheme under which an input assistance of Rs 19,257 per acre will be given to paddy farmers. The decision in this regard was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai here at Mantralaya, a government statement said. Fulfilling another guarantee (pre-Assembly poll promise) of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the cabinet has decided to implement 'Krishak Unnati Yojana' from kharif season 2023-24 in the interest of the farmers of the state, it said. The scheme aimed at increasing income, crop production and productivity of the farmers in the state and reducing the cost of the cultivation, it said. Under it, farmers will be provided input assistance at the rate of Rs 19,257 per acre on the basis of paddy purchased from them, said the statement. The newly elected BJP government in Chhattisgarh has effected a major bureaucratic reshuffle, transferring 88 Indian Administrative Service officers and one officer of the Indian Police Service. Senior BJP MLA and former Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh was on Tuesday unanimously elected as the speaker of the state legislative assembly. The first session of the newly-elected assembly began here on Tuesday. Chief Minister Vinshu Deo Sai moved a proposal for the election of 71-year-old Singh as the speaker which was seconded by Deputy CM Arun Sao. Leader of opposition Charandas Mahant also moved a proposal for the election of Singh as the speaker which was seconded by senior Congress leader and former CM Bhupesh Baghel. Three more proposals were moved by BJP members in favour of Raman Singh. On Sunday, Singh filed his nomination for the speaker's post and said his new responsibility will be to take everyone together in the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha.
