The government will offer 27 coal blocks across various states as it launches the fresh round of commercial mine auction on Thursday. Union Minister of coal and mines G Kishan Reddy will launch the 11th round of commercial coal mine auctions on December 5, an official statement said. The forthcoming auction offers 27 coal blocks distributed across various states and regions, designed to promote regional economic growth, and create employment opportunities. "In this round, 20 coal mines will be offered for bidding, comprising 10 fully explored and 10 partially explored blocks. "Additionally, seven coal mines from the second attempt of round 10 will also be on offer, including four fully explored and three partially explored blocks," the coal ministry said. All these are non-coking coal blocks which are expected to generate annual revenue of approximately Rs 1,446 crore at peak-rated capacity and create around 19,063 employment opportunities.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy will on Friday launch the 10th round of commercial coal auctions in which 60 mines will be put on block, an official statement said on Wednesday. The move will enhance domestic coal production and ensure energy security for the nation. The blocks to be put on sale include both coking and non-coking coal mines, the statement by Ministry of Coal said. A total of 39 mines will be put on sale in the eighth round of commercial coal mines auction, which will be launched on Wednesday, the government said on Monday. Pursuant to the launch of the first tranche of commercial coal mine auction by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2020, a total of 91 coal mines in seven tranches have been put on sale. "A total of 35 coal mines will be offered in the upcoming round comprising 11 under the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015 and 24 under the MMDR Act 1957... The Centre has transferred Rs 704 crore upfront payment that it received from the sixth round of coal mine auctions to six states, an official statement said on Thursday. The amount has been transferred to coal-bearing states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, and West Bengal, the Ministry of Coal statement said. "The Ministry of Coal has transferred Rs 704 crore upfront amount received from auction of coal mines to these six coal-bearing states. This financial transfer marks a substantial initiative to empower and support developmental growth of these states," it said. The allotted amount of Rs 704 crore represents the first installment of upfront amount for 18 coal mines that were successfully auctioned in the sixth round of auctions and second attempt of the fifth round of commercial coal mine auctions.

The coal ministry on Tuesday said it has received 35 bids under the seventh round of auctions of commercial coal mines. This round of auction was started by the ministry for 103 mines on March 29, 2023. The last date for submission of bids was June 27. According to the ministry, a total of 35 offline bids have been received for 18 coal mines and two or more bids have been received for seven mines. The online bids received as part of the auction process will be opened on June 28.

The government has extended the last date to submit bids under the seventh round of commercial coal auctions till June 27, 2023, an official statement said Wednesday. The government had earlier fixed May 30 as the last date to submit bids for the 106 coal mines that were put on the block in the latest round of auctions. On March 29, the government launched the seventh round of commercial coal auctions in a bid to increase the availability of the dry fuel in the country. In a statement, the Ministry of Coal said: "In view of requests received from a large number of potential bidders, it has extended the last date for bid submission by 28 days and now the last date for bid submission for the seventh round of auctions is 27.06.2023 which was 30.5.2023 earlier." The government will put on the block 106 coal mines on Wednesday, launching the seventh round of commercial auctions, an official statement said. In the statement, the coal ministry said it will also be signing the agreements for the 28 coal mines auctioned under the sixth round of auctions, it said. "The Ministry of Coal will be signing the agreements for 28 coal mines auctioned under the sixth round and launching the seventh round of auction of mines for sale of coal on March 29, 2023," the statement said. The cumulative PRC (peak rated capacity) of the 28 coal mines auctioned under previous round is 74 million tonne per annum (MTPA) and these mines are expected to generate annual revenue of Rs 14,497 crore calculated at PRC of these coal mines. Upon operationalisation, these mines are expected to generate employment for one lakh people, the ministry said. Of the 106 coal mines offered under seventh round, 61 mines are partially explored coal mines and 45 are fully explored ones.

The Ministry of Coal on Wednesday said it has put on auction 122 coal and lignite mines under the commercial auction process. Addressing the fifth tranche of auction launch, Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi said 42 coal mines have already been auctioned successfully so far. In a statement, the ministry said it "has placed on offer 122 coal/lignite mines today under commercial auction of coal mines, including 18 new coal mines."
