The number of Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) outlets declined to 450 in FY24, though the count of operational vending machines at corporate workplaces and hotels increased to 52,581. The number of Value Express kiosks also declined marginally to 265, according to the latest annual report of Coffee Day Enterprises Ltd (CDEL), which owns the chain through its subsidiary Coffee Day Global Ltd. Coffee Day Global was operating 469 cafes and 268 CCD Value Express kiosks in FY23. Moreover, CCD's presence also declined to 141 cities in FY24, as compared to 154 cities a year before, the annual report showed. It had a presence in 158 cities in FY22. However, there is a substantial increase in the number of operational vending machines, which has gone up to 52,581 in FY24 from 48,788 of FY23. It was at 38,810 in FY22. CDEL further said gross revenue from the company's consolidated coffee business stood at Rs 966 crore in 2023-24, up 11.16 per cent year-on-year. CDEL has been facing trouble since the

India's coffee exports rose by 12.22 per cent to USD 1.28 billion in 2023-24 on higher demand for Robusta coffee in the global markets, according to the commerce ministry data. The country exported coffee worth USD 1.14 billion in 2022-23. India is Asia's third-largest producer and exporter of coffee. The country grows Arabica and Robusta varieties. Arabica coffee beans have less caffeine content than the Robusta. Arabica has sweet and smoother taste, while Robusta is generally more bitter and harsher on the taste buds. In volume terms, coffee shipments from India rose 13.35 per cent to 1,25,631 tonnes during the January-March period of 2023-24. The country had exported 1,10,830 tonnes of coffee in the same period in 2023. Italy, Russia, the UAE, Germany and Turkey are major coffee export destinations for India.

Barring Darjeeling leaf, all other categories of tea marked an impressive increase in demand during Sale-15, a Calcutta Tea Traders' Association (CTTA) official said here on Thursday. The auction (Sale-15) was held on April 11 and 12, he said. According to CTTA data, the total offerings amounted to 44,624 packages (12,96,550 kg) comprising 22,532 packages of CTC leaf, 18,750 packages of orthodox, 405 packages of Darjeeling leaf and 2,937 packages of dust tea. CTC leaf met 53.05 per cent of its demand at below Rs 150 per kg price level and a total of 3,88,588 kg of different categories were sold at an average price of Rs 180.67 per kg.
