Delhi airport operator DIAL has asked SpiceJet to clear its dues at the earliest, sources said on Tuesday even as the airline asserted that there are no immediate concerns regarding payments. There was no official comment from DIAL (Delhi International Airport Ltd), which operates the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital. SpiceJet has been facing financial and legal woes, and aviation watchdog DGCA placed the budget carrier under enhanced surveillance last week. The sources in the know on Tuesday said DIAL has asked the carrier to clear the dues at the earliest. Details about pending dues could not be immediately ascertained. Delhi airport operator DIAL has won an arbitral award against Airports Authority of India (AAI) with respect to revenue share obligations during the coronavirus pandemic period. Under the Operation, Management and Development Agreement (OMDA) for the Delhi airport, DIAL had invoked arbitration against the AAI seeking certain reliefs as eligible to it on account of the occurrence of force majeure event during the coronavirus pandemic period. In a regulatory filing, GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd said an arbitral tribunal passed the award on January 6. Mentioning about key aspects of the award, the company said DIAL has been "excused from making payment of Monthly Annual Fee (MAF) for the period from 19th March 2020 to 28th February 2022 due to existence of force majeure". Delhi airport operator DIAL on Friday said its excess baggage service has handled around 1.7 lakh kilograms of luggage and has helped passengers save around Rs 7 crore on excess baggage since the initiative started in 2020. Under the service, prices start at Rs 99 per kilogram. "Excess baggage delivery is offered at less than 1/5th of the typical excess baggage cost, making it a highly cost-effective solution for travellers. Airlines are likely to save around Rs 150-180 crore annually by using the Delhi airport's Eastern Cross Taxiways that help reduce taxiing time as well as fuel consumption by aircraft, according to a top official. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, operated by DIAL (Delhi International Airport Ltd), handles up to 1,500 aircraft movements daily. In a recent interview, DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said assuming 10-15 per cent of aircraft use the Eastern Cross Taxiways (ECT), it is expected that there would be saving of around 55,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. There can be savings of Rs 150 to Rs 180 crore for airlines by using the ECT, he said. Airport operator DIAL on Monday announced the installation of feminine hygiene product vending machines at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in collaboration with Sirona. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday said the country's civil aviation sector is witnessing the beginning of the growth phase and that the number of planes with domestic airlines will increase to 1,500 from 720 at present. Delhi airport operator DIAL on Monday said it has introduced Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facility at Terminal 3 that will help reduce the waiting time for passengers at the airport. SBD aims to streamline the baggage drop-off process, reduce the wait time for passengers by around 15-20 minutes and further enhance the overall airport experience. The facility can cater to up to three passengers per minute, according to the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL). Currently, domestic passengers will be able to use the facility, and it will be made available for international passengers post mandatory approvals. Traffic diversions will be in place at two locations near Delhi Aerocity due to ongoing construction works, according to Delhi airport operator DIAL. Delhi airport operator DIAL on Wednesday said facial recognition technology-based DigiYatra facility will be available for passengers at all entry and boarding gates of Terminal 2 and 3 by the end of March. The DigiYatra facility at entry gates of Terminal 1 of the airport is likely to be operational from April.
