In the Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha constituency, a region known for altering political allegiance in every election, BJP candidate Dilip Ghosh faces a pivotal challenge to overturn this pattern and secure his political future. Since its establishment in 2009, Bardhaman-Durgapur has sent CPI(M), TMC and BJP representatives once each to the Lok Sabha in the three previous polls. In 2019, BJP's S S Ahluwalia clinched the seat from the TMC by a narrow margin of approximately 3,000 votes, marking it as a challenging battleground for the saffron party. With the odds stacked up, the BJP is placing its faith in Ghosh, widely regarded as one of its most successful state presidents, to retain its foothold in the region. Political analysts believe that Ghosh's relocation from his previous Medinipur constituency, coupled with his removal from the post of party's national vice-president, have turned the Bardhaman-Durgapur contest into a critical test of both prestige and political survival for
The Election Commission on Wednesday issued show-cause notices to BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and Congress leader Supriya Shrinate for their offensive remarks against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kangana Ranaut respectively. Ranaut has been fielded by the BJP from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha seat for the parliamentary elections. Their remarks were "undignified and in bad taste", the Election Commission (EC) said. The poll panel said that prima facie, the two remarks were violative of the Model Code of Conduct and its advisory to political parties to maintain dignity during electioneering. The two have been asked to respond to the show-cause notices by March 29 evening.
The West Bengal BJP on Monday accused the TMC government of trying to refrain people from participating in the celebrations of Ram temple inauguration in various parts of the state, aligning with the consecration ceremony at Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Former state BJP president and MP Dilip Ghosh, who began the day by offering puja at a temple in Kharagpur, said, "The 'Sampriti (harmony) Rally' by TMC is an attempt to mislead people". "As the country is celebrating the Ram temple inauguration, the TMC government in Bengal is trying to stop people from participating in such celebrations through the all-faith rally to be organised by the ruling party. We condemn such an attempt," he said. His remarks drew a sharp rebuttal from the TMC, which stated that its 'all-faith" rally has nothing to do with Ram temple inauguration. The consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya will be held on Monday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi performing the rituals. The Trinamool .

BJP's West Bengal state secretary Sukanta Majumdar on Saturday said senior party leader Dilip Ghosh, whose name did not feature in a rejigged list of the party's central office bearers, is likely to be used for strengthening the state unit to fight the TMC ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. There are, however, speculations within a section of the party that Ghosh may be inducted in the Union ministry. "A veteran and loyal leader like Dilipda is likely to be used for strengthening the state unit to take on the Trinamool Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha elections," Majumdar told PTI. He said it was a decision taken at the highest level of the party in the interest of the organisation. To a question about possibility of Ghosh's induction in the Union ministry, he said, "We don't have any such information, the party national leadership does not discuss such issues with the state committee." BJP president JP Nadda rejigged the list of the party's central office bearers on Saturday,
BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh Friday courted yet another controversy by saying that the day is not far off when the TMC leaders will be "publicly beaten up" for their involvement in various graft cases in the state. Ghosh, known for making controversial remarks, said the TMC leaders will soon face "public ire" for their alleged involvement in various scams, including cattle smuggling and the SSC scandals. "The day is not far away when TMC leaders will be publicly beaten up. The people of the state are fed up with this corrupt TMC regime. They will soon face public ire for their involvement in various scams," he said addressing a protest rally. "Only two TMC leaders have been arrested and the party is crying foul over it. The day is not far off when the entire TMC leadership will be behind bars. None of the TMC leaders will be spared, they have to pay for their sins," he said. The CBI had arrested TMC Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal from Bolpur on August 11 for
The BJP central leadership spoke to the party's national vice-president Dilip Ghosh over his recent remarks questioning the impartiality of the CBI and asked him to refrain from making such controversial remarks in future. Ghosh had recently stirred a hornet's nest by claiming that some CBI officers are hand in glove with the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. Continuing his tirade against the central investigating agency, Ghosh on Monday wondered what action CBI has taken in the post-poll violence in which around 60 BJP workers were killed in West Bengal after the Assembly elections last year. "Yesterday, I got a call from our party's national president J P Nadda. He wanted to know why I made such a remark. I explained my position. I was asked not to make such comments in future," Ghosh told PTI on Tuesday. Embarrassed by his remarks, the state BJP unit, which swears by the impartiality of the CBI, had reported the matter to the party's top brass. The state leadership had

Claiming that the people of the northern part of West Bengal have been deprived of development, two BJP MLAs on Thursday demanded a union territory (UT) for North Bengal at a party rally which was later addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh, a former chief of the party's West Bengal unit, said he agrees with the demand, claiming that the people of the region want it. Matigara-Naxalbari legislator Anandamay Barman and Dabgram-Phulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee spoke in favour of a union territory. Reacting to the demand, the ruling Trinamool Congress accused the BJP of fanning separatism. "If Ladakh can be carved out as a union territory from Jammu & Kashmir, why not North Bengal? What is the harm in it? The people of North Bengal have been deprived for decades and it is time to stop that deprivation. I would request the prime minister and the union home minister to look into the demand," Barman said. Echoing his party colleague, Chatterjee
