About Doda

Doda

Doda, one of the largest assembly constituencies in Jammu, is witnessing a five-way contest. This constituency acts as a bridge between the Jammu region and Kashmir Valley, reflecting the broader regional issues through its diverse population. The 52-Doda constituency has become a contentious issue between alliance partners National Conference (NC) and Congress, with both parties vying for a win in what is expected to be a close contest. Alongside Congress and NC, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are also trying to gain a foothold.

According to official data from the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), there are 98,582 eligible voters in Doda, including 50,546 males, 48,034 females, and two voters from the third gender. Polling for the first phase of the assembly elections is scheduled for September 18, 2024. Of the nine candidates contesting, six represent political parties, while three are independents. In the 2014 Assembly elections, the BJP's Shakti Raj Parihar secured the seat, defeating Congress candidate Abdul Majid Wani, with NC’s Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy finishing third. Before that, Wani held the seat in both 2002 and 2008.
