Passengers of an IndiGo flight from the city to Doha waited inside the aircraft for more than four hours as the flight was delayed due to a technical issue on Sunday. Some passengers took to social media to complain about the long flight delay and that they had to wait for long. The flight was to take off on Sunday early morning. Passengers were inside the aircraft for more than four hours before they deplaned. The flight is now expected to take off later in the day from the Mumbai airport, sources in the know said. IndiGo said its flight 6E 1303, operating from Mumbai to Doha, was delayed due to a technical reason. "The aircraft tried to depart for its destination a couple of times but had to finally be called off due to the extended time lag on account of various procedural delays," the airline said in a statement. Domestic carrier Akasa Air has commenced its international operations with its inaugural overseas flight departing from Mumbai to Doha, Qatar. In a statement on Thursday, the airline said it has been granted traffic rights for three other international destinations -- Kuwait, Jeddah, and Riyadh. Akasa will be rapidly expanding its global footprint in the coming months, the statement said. Further, the airline said with its conveniently timed flight schedule, travellers from other domestic cities such as Ahmedabad, Goa, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Delhi will also have multiple connecting options for travel to and from Doha via Mumbai. Domestically, Akasa operates from a host of cities including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, among others.

Akasa Air on Friday said it will start international operations with flight services to Doha starting from March 28. "Starting 28 March 2024, Akasa Air will operate four non-stop flights a week, connecting Mumbai with Doha, enhancing air connectivity between Qatar and India," the airline said in a release. Akasa Air Founder and CEO Vinay Dube said its foray into Qatar marks the next phase of growth as it continues the journey towards becoming one of the world's top 30 airlines by the turn of this decade. Currently, the airline, which started flying in August 2022, operates 23 Boeing 737 Max aircraft.

An appeal has been filed against the death sentence handed down to eight former Indian Navy personnel by a Qatari court last month, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said the Indian embassy in Doha received another consular access to the detained Indians on Tuesday and that New Delhi will continue to extend all legal and consular support to them. The eight former Indian Navy personnel were on October 26 given death sentence by Qatar's Court of First Instance. India described the ruling as "deeply" shocking and vowed to explore all legal options in the case. "As we have informed earlier, the Court of First Instance of Qatar passed a judgement on October 26 in the case involving eight Indian employees of Al Dahra company," Bagchi said. An IndiGo plane flying from Kannur to Doha was diverted to the airport here on Friday due to a technical issue. The airline said the flight 6E-1715 was diverted to Mumbai as a precaution. "The operating crew noticed a technical issue and diverted the aircraft to Mumbai for necessary maintenance. The passengers are being accommodated on an alternative aircraft for their onward journey," it said in a statement. According to a senior DGCA official, the aircraft was diverted due to a hydraulic leak. Kannur is in Kerala. Details about the number of passengers onboard the aircraft was not immediately available.

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has upheld the petition of Doha Bank seeking priority payment for the financial creditors of Reliance Infratel which will lead to around Rs 3,515 crore recovery for the lenders, according to a source aware of the development. The payment has to be made from a payment of about Rs 4,400 crore realised from sale of assets to a Reliance Industries Ltd ( RIL) subsidiary through NCLT-driven debt resolution process. According to the source, State Bank of India will receive Rs 728 crore, Mahima Mercantile Rs 514 crore, SC Lowy Rs 511 crore, VTB Capital PLC Rs 511 crore, Doha Bank 409 crore, Emirates NBD Rs 322 crore, ICBC Rs 278 crore and Standard Chartered Bank will get Rs 242 crore. "Reliance Infratel will also get Rs 455 crore towards the equity and Working Capital needs from RIL subsidiary.
