Traffic challans can now be settled using a Paytm QR code in Gurugram, police said on Friday. Keeping in mind the convenience of the people, DCP traffic Virender Vij launched a Paytm QR code for paying challan on Thursday, an official said. DCP Vij said that this new initiative will not only save people's time but with the help of this Paytm QR, challan can be easily paid for by scanning the code while even sitting at home. He added that Gurugram is the first district of Haryana where easy payment of challan was started with the help of Paytm QR code and after this, no one will have to visit offices to pay the challan. "The Paytm QR codes have been pasted in all the police stations, police chowkis, traffic booths and all the police offices in Gurugram district. The Maharashtra motor vehicles department (MMVD) will procure interceptor vehicles equipped with radar systems capable of detecting multiple traffic violations simultaneously, officials said on Friday. The deployment of such radar-mounted interceptor vehicles, which will be the first for any state in the country, is expected to significantly increase the number of e-challans issued by flying squads of Regional Transport Offices (RTO), in turn improving enforcement efficiency, they said. The radar-based system will be installed on 96 interceptor vehicles, the majority of which arrived about a month ago and are awaiting fitment, and will then be handed over to RTO flying squads, the officials said. The Bihar Transport department and traffic police have issued over 16,700 e-challans worth Rs 9.49 crore in a week through e-detection system installed in 13 toll plazas in the state for violation of motor vehicle act, officials said. Out of 16,755 e-challans issued by the authorities, 9,676 belonged to vehicles registered in other states while 7,079 e-challans were issued to vehicles registered in Bihar in a week from August 7 to 15, they said. Additional Director General (ADG) of Bihar Traffic Police Sudhanshu Kumar told reporters on Tuesday, "The state transport department in coordination with traffic police, introduced issuance of e-challan through e-detection system, which has been installed at 13 toll plazas in the state. Vehicle owners of the state without valid insurance, fitness and pollution certificates, will now receive e-challan on their mobile phones through e-detection system. The Delhi Police has issued 101 challans for minor driving offences from January till May 15, as per the official data. A total of 15 challans were issued during the same period in 2023, data from the Delhi Traffic Police revealed. "A surge of nearly 573 per cent was witnessed this year. The rise in prosecutions serves as a deterrent, highlighting the legal consequences of such violations," a senior police officer said. According to traffic police, they have implemented several strategic measures aimed at tackling this issue. These measures include heightened surveillance, deployment of additional personnel at key checkpoints, and increased patrolling in areas known for frequent traffic violations by minors.
