HC revises income limit from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for EWS quota students

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered that children belonging to families with annual income up to Rs 2.5 lakh can seek admission to schools in the national capital under the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) quota, modifying an earlier order passed by a single judge bench of the court. A bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora stayed certain directions issued by a single judge of the high court in the December 5, 2023 judgment which had raised the threshold income limit from Rs 1 Lakh to Rs 5 lakh annually until the government amended the relevant law. The high court passed the interim order on an appeal filed by the Delhi government challenging the single judge's decision. The single judge had also directed the Delhi government to immediately do away with the mechanism of self-declaration of income by parents and devise an appropriate framework for continuation of free seats for EWS in schools. DDA housing scheme: EWS, LIG flats in Dwarka sold out on day 1 of booking

Around 1,500 flats were booked in Dwarka, Narela and Lok Nayak Puram on the first day of booking for the Delhi Development Authority's (DDA) recently launched housing scheme on Monday, officials said. Flats in Sector 14 of Dwarka in economically weaker section (EWS) and low-income group (LIG) categories were completely sold out, they said. The registration for the scheme, under which flats are being offered on a first-come, first-served (FCFS) basis, began on November 24 and will close on March 31, 2024. The booking of flats began on December 11. "Around 1,500 flats booked till now in Dwarka, Narela and Lok Nayak Puram under the FCFS housing scheme on day one till now, which includes over 1,100 EWS and around 400 LIG flats. Total registration under FCFS scheme is around 12,500," a senior DDA official said. Under the housing scheme, more than 32,000 flats of different categories have been put up for sale.

PM to inaugurate biggest housing project for EWS in Maharashtra next month

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the largest housing project for economically weaker sections at Solapur, in Maharashtra, next month, a senior government official said on Friday. The project at Raynagar in Solapur is spread over 100 acres and comprises 30,000 homes, of which 15,000 have already been built, Maharashtra's additional chief secretary Valsa Nair Singh said. "The biggest economically weaker section housing scheme is now in the final stages of being built at a place called Raynagar in Solapur. PM Modi is coming next month to inaugurate it," the bureaucrat said, addressing a summit organised by industry lobby Naredco. 1,700 applications received from students for DU's fee waiver scheme

Around 1,700 applications have been received for the Delhi University's fee waiver scheme for students from an economically weak background, an official said on Thursday. The university will examine the applications and release the final list of the students who will become beneficiaries of the Financial Support Scheme (FSS), the official said. January 31 was the last date for applying for the scheme. "We have received around 1,700 applications for the fee waiver scheme so far. The university through this scheme will extend the benefits of equity, access and quality with excellence, both in letter and spirit, to the financially weak students," the official told PTI. Delhi University launches 100% fee waiver scheme for EWS students

The Delhi University has started a scheme of fee waiver for students from an economically weak background to provide the benefits of equity, access and quality with excellence to everyone, an official said on Wednesday. The waiver includes all components of the fees paid by the students except the examination fee and the hostel fee. Students from an economically weak background can get up to 100 per cent fee waiver, depending on their family income. A full-time bona fide student studying in the university is eligible to apply for it. December 12 is the last date for applying. SC to deliver verdict on Monday on pleas challenging Centre's 10% EWS quota

The Supreme Court is scheduled to pronounce on Monday its judgement on a batch of pleas challenging the validity of the 103rd Constitution amendment providing 10 per cent reservation to economically weaker sections (EWS) persons in admissions and government jobs. PM Modi inaugurates 3,024 EWS flats in Delhi to rehabilitate slum dwellers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated 3,024 newly constructed flats for the Economically Weaker Sections in Delhi as part of an in-situ slum rehabilitation project.
