Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said that by 2030, Maharashtra will become the first state in the country to produce 50 per cent of its energy requirements from non-traditional power sources. Fadnavis, who is also the state's energy minister, was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Avaada Electro Pvt Ltd's integrated solar ingot - wafer, cell, module and electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Nagpur MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation). A lot of changes are taking place in Maharashtra in the field of solar energy sector, he said. In just two-and-a-half years, the Maharashtra government has approved 20,000 megawatt of solar projects in the state, the former chief minister said. The government will soon invite bids for 10 gigawatt of battery energy storage projects, an official said on Friday. The move will strengthen India's position in the energy storage segment, which is in a developing stage. Vijay Mittal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries, said, "The ministry will soon come out with a 10 gigawatt RFP (request for proposal) for those who are working on the energy storage part of it for grid-scale energy storage systems...so that we have...indigenous capability for manufacturing of battery energy storage system compatible with advanced chemistry cells." The official was addressing the 'Summit on Lithium-Ion Batteries', organised by industry body India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA), virtually. The ministry is leading the mission of indigenous manufacturing of chemistry cells in the country as part of electric vehicle (EV) initiative. Lignite-to-power producer NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) will invest around Rs 50,000 crore to ramp up its renewable energy capacity from 1.43 GW to 10.11 GW. NLC India Green Energy Limited (NIGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NLCIL, is established with special focus on renewable energy generation, an official statement said on Friday. "NLCIL aims to achieve a renewable energy (RE) portfolio mix of 50 per cent of its total planned capacity, increasing its RE capacity from 1.43 GW to 10.11 GW. "The above plan entails an investment of Rs 50,000 crore (approx) in renewable portfolio, which will support India's RE target and contribute to the broader aim of achieving 'net zero' emissions by 2070," the statement said. Shakti Pumps on Monday said it has posted a manifold jump in its consolidated profit after tax to Rs 92.6 crore during the June 2024 quarter, on the back of higher revenues and healthy order book. It had clocked a Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs 1 crore in the April-June quarter of the preceding fiscal, the company said in a statement. During the first quarter, the company's revenue from operations rose four-fold to Rs 567.6 crore from Rs 113.1 crore in the year-ago quarter. As of June 2024, the company had an order book of around Rs 2,000 crore, the statement said. "We reported an outstanding start to FY25, with the first quarter demonstrating robust revenue growth and enhanced profitability. State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) will soon introduce retail franchisee shops called 'Urja Dakshta Dukan' which will offer affordable energy-efficient products like LED lights, ACs and fans to consumers, a senior official said. EESL, at present, distributes products through retail tie-ups with power distribution utilities to consumers. Buyers can also purchase the products online from its web portal EESLMART.in. The first batch of franchisee outlets is expected to open in Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Telangana, the official said. The invitation for pan India franchise tie-ups will be available on the EESL website from August. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave ex post facto approval to an initial pact between India and Bhutan on cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and conservation measures. The MoU was signed between the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India, and the Department of Energy, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Government of Bhutan, an official statement said. The programmes and initiatives of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency have helped the country to cut 3.5 per cent of energy consumption annually and reduce yearly carbon emissions by 306 million tonnes (MT), Union Minister RK Singh said on Friday. The minister made the remarks at the 22nd Foundation Day of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), a statement issued by the Power Ministry said. "BEE helped India to reduce its energy consumption by around 3.5 per cent, and to reduce its carbon emissions by 306 million tonnes per annum," the Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy said. State-owned Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) on Thursday said it has inked five initial pacts with partners to boost energy efficiency and renewables in the country, aligning with G20 and COP28 commitments.
