Australia secured a second big victory over England in their ODI series, winning by 68 runs after Alex Carey's dashing 74 off 67 balls and an impressive bowling display sparked by the tourists' returning senior pacers. It was a 14th straight ODI win for the world champion Australians, who moved into a 2-0 lead in a five-match series that has underlined the chasm that has grown between the fierce rivals in the 50-over format. Yet Australia, which won the first ODI by seven wickets on Thursday, was struggling to get past 200 at Headingley after being put into bat, with captain Mitchell Marsh (60 off 59 balls) the only top-order batter to hit a half-century. Travis Head, coming off a career-best 154 not out two days ago, made 29 before being the first of three wickets for fast bowler Brydon Carse (3-75). Steve Smith was out for 4, Marnus Labuschagne for 19 and Glenn Maxwell for 7 as Australia labored. However, Carey dominated the batting in the tail and provided a late flourish for ..

England's T20I series decider against Australia was washed out Sunday without a ball being bowled at Old Trafford. The series finished tied 1-1. The forecast never looked likely to allow for any meaningful play to take place in the third T20I and the umpires finally called the abandonment at 4:20 p.m. local time, almost two hours after the scheduled start. Australia won the series opener by 28 runs at Southampton before England leveled the series with a three-wicket win at Cardiff. The first of five one-day internationals between the teams starts Thursday at Trent Bridge. Harry Brook, a 25-year-old batter, is set to captain England for the first time in the series after Jos Buttler's persistent calf injury saw him ruled out.

Harry Brook is set to captain England for the first time in the one-day international series against Australia after Jos Buttler was ruled out because of his persistent calf injury. Buttler has not played a competitive match since England lost the T20 World Cup semifinal against India in Guyana at the end of June. Having missed the Hundred he suffered a setback in his recovery and has also been forced out of facing the Australians. Brook, 25, has only 15 caps in ODI cricket but England views him as a future leader and had already primed the Yorkshireman to deputize for Buttler when the squad was announced. The first of five one-day internationals between England and Australia starts Thursday at Trent Bridge. Brook's appointment also means England has had a new captain in each international format this summer. Ollie Pope took the test reins from Ben Stokes when the latter's hamstring injury saw him miss the three-match series against Sri Lanka and Phil Salt inherited the T20 role

Wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow and spinner Moeen Ali may have played their last games for England after being dropped Monday in a shakeup of the white-ball squads to face Australia. England and Australia will play three T20 internationals starting Sept. 11 at Southampton followed by five ODI games. Matthew Mott was fired as head coach of the limited-overs side last month after disappointing title defenses in the ODI and T20 World Cups and the appetite for change has continued with the removal of two senior players sharing more than 400 caps for the forthcoming series against Australia. Five uncapped players have been called up for Marcus Trescothick's first assignment as interim coach, with left-arm seamer Josh Hull, allrounder Jacob Bethell and pace bowler John Turner selected in both formats, while Dan Mousley and Jordan Cox come into the T20 squad. Moeen has been an influential vice-captain to Jos Buttler in recent times but is now 37 and has acknowledged in the past that

The Australian and New Zealand governments announced on Tuesday they were sending planes to evacuate their nationals from violence-scorched New Caledonia. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed Australia had received clearance from French authorities for two flights to evacuate citizens and other tourists from New Caledonia amid violent unrest that has beset the French Pacific archipelago where indigenous people have long sought independence from France. We continue to work on further flights, Wong wrote on the social media platform X on Tuesday. The Department of Foreign Affairs said 300 Australians were in New Caledonia. New Zealand also announced it was sending a plane on Tuesday to evacuate 50 of its nationals from Noumea, the Pacific island's capital, in the first in a series of proposed flights to bring its citizens home. New Zealanders in New Caledonia have faced a challenging few days and bringing them home has been an urgent priority for the Government, Peters

England all-rounder David Willey on Wednesday announced that he will retire from international cricket after the end of the ongoing World Cup and insisted that his team's underwhelming performance in the showpiece has not influenced his decision. Willey's decision has come a week after England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) excluded him from the list of cricketers who were offered central contracts for the 2023-24 season. "I never wanted this day to come. From a young boy, I've only ever dreamed of playing cricket for England," Willey wrote in an Instagram post. "So, with careful thought and consideration, it is with great regret that I feel the time has come for me to retire from all forms of international cricket at the end of the World Cup." England have endured a forgettable campaign so far as the defending champions are languishing at the bottom of the 10-team table, managing just one victory from their six matches. "I have worn the shirt with immense pride and given my absol

Legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting said England's 'Bazball' approach had left the Australians a befuddled group during the Ashes, which saw the Englishmen making a remarkable comeback from 0-2 down. Australia led the series 2-0 after the first two Tests at Edgbaston and Lord's but England bounced back to make the series scoreline 2-2 with wins in the third Test at Headingley and in the fifth Test at the Oval. The rain-marred fourth Test at Manchester ended in a draw. Though the Aussies managed to retain the Ashes urn, former captain Ponting said the home side gave them a tough ride. Australia are yet to win a Test series in England since 2001. Talking to SEN Radio, Ponting explained, "The two contrasting styles of play were great to sit back and watch. There was a lot of talk about Bazball and how England would approach it, and would that style stand up against the quality of the Australian attack. "It probably had some of the Australian players, coaches and the captain

England moved on to its first Women's World Cup championship game with a 3-1 victory Wednesday over co-host Australia, ending the Matildas captivating run through the tournament. Australia superstar Sam Kerr started her first match of the tournament and scored for the Matildas but it wasn't enough to hold off European champion England. Ella Toone scored in the 36th minute to put England up 1-0 and the Lionesses dominated possession in the first half. Kerr's equalizer in the 63rd gave the 75,000-plus crowd some hope, but EEngland sealed it on goals from Lauren Hemp in the 71st and Alessia Russo four minutes from the end of regulation time. England and Spain will each be playing in the Women's World Cup final for the first time when they meet at Stadium Australia on Sunday. Australia will play Sweden for third place on Saturday in Brisbane.

The tests keep coming for England at the Women's World Cup and the Lionesses keep roaring. Alessia Russo fired England into the semifinals with a second-half goal to beat Colombia 2-1 on Saturday in a game that showcased the resolve of Sarina Wiegman's team and set up a clash with co-host Australia. We always find a way through," said Russo, whose goal completed a come-from-behind win after Leicy Santos had given Colombia a first-half lead. One of the strongest things about this team is we never give up. England advanced to the last four for the third consecutive Women's World Cup, despite going into the tournament with a host of key players out injured. Kiera Walsh was then sidelined after hurting her knee in the second game of the group stage and Lauren James is serving a two-game suspension for stepping on Nigeria defender Michelle Alozie in the round of 16. Yet England keep coming up with answers. We've had lots of challenges, and we've got through these challenges," Wiegman
