The Congress government in Telangana has waived crop loans to the tune of about Rs 18,000 crore benefitting 22 lakh farmers within 10 months after coming to power, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said on Saturday. He also claimed it to be the biggest crop loan waiver ever made by a state government in such a short period, in India since independence. CM Reddy said that he was ready for a debate on this feat with either PM Narendra Modi or BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao. Addressing a public meeting at Mahabubnagar organised as part of the first anniversary celebrations of the Congress government in the state, CM Revanth Reddy said, with over Rs 2,747 crore released on Saturday, the government has waived loans to the tune of Rs 21,000 crore benefitting 25 lakh farmers' families. Telangana government is all set to launch a farm loan waiver programme, part of its poll promise benefitting 70 lakh farmers, on Thursday, official sources said. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had earlier announced that the government would implement the loan waiver up to Rs 2 lakh by August 15. The loan waiver funds up to Rs one lakh will be deposited in the farmers' accounts at 4 pm on Thursday. The chief minister said Rs 7,000 crore in total would be credited to the accounts of farmers whose loans of up to Rs one lakh are being waived. Crop loans of up to Rs 1.5 lakh would be waived by the end of July, and the loan waiver process would be completed in August when loans of up to Rs two lakh are dispensed with. Reddy also suggested organising a gathering of farm loan waiver scheme beneficiaries at "Rythu Vedikas" and Ministers, MLAs and other public representatives of the respective districts should also attend and share the joy with the farmers. The Delhi Police has placed orders for more than 30,000 tear gas shells, an official said, as the force prepares to prevent Punjab farmers from entering the national capital under their 'Dilli Chalo' protest. Hundreds of farmers marching from Punjab have been stopped at the state's border with Haryana near Ambala, about 200 kilometers away from Delhi. Haryana security forces have used tear gas on them to try and disperse them. A Delhi Police source said they are determined to not let the protesters enter the national capital should they advance. As part of the preparation, the Delhi Police has already stocked up a large number of tear gas shells and ordered 30,000 more from the BSF's Tear Smoke Unit (TSU) located at Tekanpur in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior, an official said. The freshly ordered shells are being brought to Delhi from Gwalior, he said. A tear gas shell is an anti-riot equipment which is used by security forces to disperse crowd. The gas brings tears by creating irritati
