Fertiliser Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday made it clear that neem-coated urea is currently sold at Rs 266.5 per 45 kg bag and the same rates will continue, while hitting back at Samajwadi Party (SP) National President Akhilesh Yadav for misleading farmers over the issue. Responding to Samajwadi Party President's January 7th post on X, Mandaviya wrote on the social media platform, "First of all, I want to make it clear to you that neem-coated urea was available at Rs 266.5 per 45 kg bag, is available now, and will continue to be available." The research has led to development of new sulfur-coated 'Urea Gold' in the interest of farmers, he said and added that its new quantity and price have been decided. The Central government along with cash-rich coal, power and oil PSUs will jointly invest over Rs 50,000 crore to revive closed fertiliser plants and set-up new gas pipelines, which would make India self-sufficient in urea by 2020-21 negating the need for imports.Briefing reporters after a mid-course assessment on revival of closed fertilizer plants in India, union fertilizer minister Ananth Kumar said that as and when all the five closed fertilizer units along start full-fledged operation, India's annual domestic urea production would rise to around 7.3 million tonnes, thereby meeting the demand of 31-32 million tonnes.Besides investing in rebuilding the shut urea plants at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, Sindri in Jharkhand, Talcher in Odisha and Barauni in Bihar, about Rs 13,000 crore is being invested in laying a gas pipeline to connect the eastern region with rest of the country.Another Rs 6,000-8,000 crore is being invested in setting up a terminal to import liquefied natural gas ...
