Union minister Giriraj Singh on Saturday claimed Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya were working as delivery agents for food delivery companies and online shopping platforms and added that they should be identified. Singh made these remarks in Hyderabad, where he attended the convocation of NIFT-Hyderabad. Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday night said the textile sector turning into another key source of income for the people after agriculture. Speaking at a road show in the run up to the Bharat Tex 2025, the Global Textile Expo in New Delhi in February, Singh said 4.6 crore people are employed in the textile sector in the country at present, which is substantially higher from the figure before 2014. "Going by the roadmap by 2030 the number of people sustaining from the sector will reach the six crore mark in 2030," he said. Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Monday said the government has set a cotton yield target of 1,000 kilograms per hectare across 11 top cotton producing states as it aims to replicate the best practices followed in Akola, Maharashtra. The Akola model of cotton production, also known as the High-Density Planting (HDPS) model, is a technique that involves planting more cotton plants in a smaller space. The model is being used in Akola to increase cotton yields and is expected to be replicated across the country. India's current yield of around 450 kg per hectare is much lower than competitors like China, Australia and Brazil, among others. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Friday expressed confidence that the niche carbon fibre -- which is used in aerospace, civil engineering and defence as an alternative to metal -- will be produced by India in 2025-26. Currently, India does not produce any carbon fibre and relies completely on imports from countries such as the US, France, Japan and Germany. The European Union's proposed Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, a tax on embedded carbon imports, is expected to kick in from 2026. "The coming days belong to Technical textiles in every sector... I am fully confident that in 2025-26 the niche carbon fibre product will also be with India," Singh told reporters here. Union minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of trying to influence the probe into the horrific rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata. Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday said the government has approved over Rs 10,000 crore production linked incentive (PLI) scheme for textiles and now considering to extend it to the garments sector with a view to boosting domestic manufacturing and exports. Addressing the India International Garment Fair (IIGF) here, Singh said that huge opportunities are there to increase exports and the industry should target USD 50 billion worth of shipments in the coming years.
