CUET-UG to return to computer-based format from 2025: UGC chairman

CUET-UG will return to the computer-based format from 2025 and students will be allowed to appear for any subject irrespective of the subjects studied in class 12, according to UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar. In an interview with PTI, Kumar said an expert panel set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) conducted a review of the exam and proposed several changes. The panel examined various aspects of the test, such as its structure, number of papers, duration of test papers, syllabus alignment and operational logistics. The changes recommended by it were approved by the commission in a recent meeting. "The exam will be conducted only in CBT (computer-based test) mode from 2025. We conducted the exam in hybrid mode last year but we will move to CBT mode because it is much more reliable and secure as compared to other modes of examination. Unemployment among graduates declines to 13.4% between July 2022, June 2023

Unemployment rate among graduates in a the age group of 15 years and above has declined to 13.4 per cent in 2022-23 from 14.9 per cent in year ago, according to a government survey. As per the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS), conducted by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the lowest unemployment rate among graduates aged 15 years and above witnessed in Chandigarh at 5.6 per cent, which was followed by Delhi with 5.7 per cent during 2022-23. The data showed the highest unemployment in Andaman & Nicobar Island at 33 per cent, followed by Ladakh at 26.5 per cent and Andhra Pradesh at 24 per cent. Among larger states, the unemployment rate was high in Rajasthan at 23.1 per cent and in Odisha at 21.9 per cent. Joblessness or unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of unemployed persons in the labour force. Considering the importance of the availability of labour force data at more frequent time intervals, the NSSO launched the Periodic Labour .

78% parents in rural India want their daughters to be at least graduate

At least 78 per cent parents in rural India aspire to educate their daughters till graduation and beyond, according to a survey report. The "State of Elementary Education in Rural India-2022" report, based on the survey of 6,229 rural households from across 20 states, was released by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan here on Tuesday evening. "Analyzing the gender distribution of the children, the findings indicate that parents exhibit a similar inclination for both their female and male children to pursue advanced education, including technical degrees, graduation, and postgraduation degrees. Parents of 82 per cent of boys and 78 per cent of girls want to educate their children to graduation and above," it said. The survey revealed, out of the total dropped-out children, around one-fourth of male children discontinued their education during primary schooling.
