India's richest woman Savitri Jindal is contesting as an independent candidate from Hisar assembly seat. BJP has named sitting MLA Kamal Gupta, who is health minister in cabinet. Savitri was hoping for a ticket from Hisar. She joined the party in March after quitting Congress. Savitri's son Naveen Jindal is BJP MP from Kurukshetra. She has net worth of $33 billion and chairperson of Jindal Group of companies.
She was cabinet minister from Hisar during Congress regime. Joined politics after husband OP Jindal (founder of Jindal Group) died in helicopter crash in 2005. OP Jindal was elected a Member of the Haryana Legislative Assembly three times. He also served as ok Sabha MP from Kurukshetra. He was Minister of Power in Haryana govt. Career cut short with his death on March 31, 2005.
Notably, Hisar and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seats were the reason for BJP-JJP divorce ahead of elections. JJP was keen on Hisar seat.
JJP has named Ravi Ahuja from Hisar.
