Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said the fire at the renowned Mahakal Temple in Ujjain on Monday morning may have been caused by chemicals in 'gulal', a coloured powder used in rituals and during Holi. The blaze, which took place in the 'garbha griha' (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple at 5:50am, left 14 priests and 'sevaks' (assistants) injured, eight of whom were shifted to the Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences in Indore. "It seems all the injured at SAIMS are out of danger, But they will be under observation for the next 24 hours," Vijayvargiya told reporters after visiting the health facility. "Every year, Holi is celebrated in Mahakaleshwar Temple by throwing gulal. Maybe, some chemical in the gulal caused the fire. However, we are not going to stop the tradition of playing Holi with Lord Bholenath in Mahakaleshwar Temple," he said. It will be ensured that no chemical laced gulal is used next time, he added. The Delhi Traffic Police will be deploying special teams across major road intersections to check drunk driving and red-light jumping on Holi. Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi Traffic) Prashant Gautam said they have made elaborate arrangements so that the festival of colours is celebrated safely and peacefully. "In the New Delhi range, they have deployed around 400 traffic police personnel at 61 traffic points and around 40 joint pickets with local police. Besides regulating the traffic, the focus will be on drunken driving, triple riding, without helmet and without seat belt driving," he said. According to an advisory issued by police, a strict watch will be kept on road violations, including speeding, triple-riding, and zig-zag driving. Ram Lalla will celebrate Holi at his new Ayodhya temple on Tuesday, a day after the festival will be celebrated across the country, with nine priests performing special prayers and applying eco-friendly 'gulal' on him. Later, devotees will play Holi with the same 'gulal'. The celebration will last for five hours, Ram temple head priest Satyendra Das told PTI on Sunday. The bright pink 'gulal' has been made from kachnar flowers. Devotees believe that kachnar was Ayodhya's "state tree" in Treta Yuga. "The trustees (of the Ram temple) have decided that Ram Lalla will be playing Holi on Tuesday using 'gulal' made from kachnar flowers which were brought from Lucknow. Nine priests, including the head priest, will apply 'gulal' on Ram Lalla after his 'shringar aarti' and then the same gulal will be applied on the devotees," Satyendra Das said. Delhi Metro services will begin from 2.30 pm on the day of Holi on March 25, officials said on Friday. The services on non-terminal stations will be available much later as the operations start from terminal stations at 2.30pm. "On the day of the Holi festival, on March 25 (Monday), Metro services will not be available till 2.30 pm on all lines of the Delhi Metro including Rapid Metro/Airport Express Line," the DMRC said in a statement. Metro train services will thus start at 2.30 pm from terminal stations on all lines on March 25 and will continue normally thereafter, it further said.
