The government has for the second time in a month cut supplies of cheaper domestically produced natural gas to CNG retailers, who have warned of their profitability being hit. Indraprastha Gas Ltd - the firm that retails CNG to automobiles and piped cooking gas to households in the national capital and adjoining cities - in a stock exchange filing said domestic supplies have been cut by about 20 per cent effective November 16. Previously, supplies had been cut by about 21 per cent effective October 16. "Based on another communication received by the company from GAIL (India) Ltd (the nodal agency for domestic gas allocation), this is to inform that there has been further reduction in domestic gas allocation to the company effective from November 16, 2024. Oil exploration and production player Josler Energy on Monday announced its collaboration with Heath Consultants, Inc and Indraprastha Gas Ltd under the US-India Low Emissions Gas Task Force (LEGT). As per the collaboration, advanced gas leak detection technologies will be introduced into IGL's gas distribution network that spans Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. After city gas retailers in Mumbai and Delhi reduced CNG prices, Torrent Gas on Saturday announced a Rs 2.50 per kg reduction in compressed natural gas (CNG) prices across all its locations. "This makes CNG cheaper by up to 45 per cent vis a vis petrol and up to 37 per cent vis a vis diesel," the company, which has a city gas license to sell CNG to automobiles and piped cooking gas to households in 34 districts, said in a statement. "This reduction in prices of CNG has been done with an objective of promoting the usage of clean fuel and enhancing the ecosystem of natural gas." Indraprastha Gas Ltd, India's leading CNG retailer, has reported a 41 per cent jump in third quarter net profit, as the firm recorded higher sales of CNG to automobiles and piped cooking gas to households and industries. The company clocked a net profit of Rs 392.07 crore in October-December - the third quarter of current fiscal that started in April 2023 - compared to Rs 278.26 crore in the same period in the previous year, it said in a statement. IGL operates city gas distribution (CGD) networks across 30 districts in 11 geographical areas across four states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.
