Two sides exchanged views on global and regional security and the implementation of aspects of the Action Plan for the India - Viet Nam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Thang called on Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar here on Wednesday. Thang is the President of Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and member of Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Theory Council. Both leaders discussed various issues of mutual interest including the role of emerging technologies for further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Vietnam, the Vice President's Secretariat said.
Vietnamese President To Lam was confirmed Saturday as the new chief of the Communist Party after his predecessor died July 19. India and Vietnam on Thursday firmed up a new action plan to expand their strategic ties, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting that both sides will work towards a free and rules-based Indo-Pacific and that New Delhi supports development and not "expansionism". Vietnamese carrier Vietjet on Friday said its flight services will connect five Indian cities to Vietnam by early November this year. At present, Mumbai and Delhi are part of the southeast Asian airline's international network. Vietjet has been flying into India since December 2019 when it launched services to Delhi from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. The services were discontinued after India suspended all commercial international passenger flight operations in late March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. After the Indian government lifted the ban on March 27 this year, Vietjet announced resumption of operations along with expansion of its services between the two countries. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday handed over to Vietnam 12 high-speed guard boats built under a USD 100 million Line of Credit granted to the Southeast Asian country by India. The boats were given by Singh at a ceremony in Hong Ha shipyard on the second day of his visit to Vietnam "It gives me great pleasure to join this historic ceremony marking the successful completion of the project to build 12 high speed guard boats under the USD 100 million Defence Line of Credit by India," he said at the event. The initial five boats were manufactured at the L&T Shipyard in India and remaining seven were built in Hong Ha shipyard.
