After winning the first Test in the ongoing India vs Australia series, the Indian cricket team is eyeing their third straight red-ball series win against Australia in down-under conditions
Former India seamer Venkatesh Prasad on Monday came down heavily on the Hardik Pandya-led team following its T20I series loss to a flagging West Indies, dubbing it a "very, very ordinary limited overs side" that is "living in illusion". With an eight-wicket thrashing in the fifth T20I, the West Indies humbled India in the five-match series after the visitors fought back to level it at 2-2 following reverses in the first two games. Prasad, who has been quite vocal in recent times, was least impressed with the result. Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Prasad wrote, "India has been a very, very ordinary limited-overs side for some time now. They have been humbled by a West Indies side that failed to qualify for the T20 WC few months back. We had also lost to Ban (Bangladesh) in the ODI series. Hope they introspect instead of making silly statements." Although the West Indies recently failed to qualify for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, it has always been a formidable side in the shortest ..
It may be a series lost for India, but some valuable gains were made as Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mukesh Kumar showed potential for future reckoning
India head coach Rahul Dravid has stressed on the need to add batting depth following the 2-3 loss to the West Indies in the T20 series. India played the series with a long tail comprising Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Mukesh Kumar. Spin all-rounder Axar Patel batted at number seven. In the series decider, India failed to accelerate in the death overs to end up with a below par 165/9. West Indies overhauled the target with two overs to spare. "I think in terms of our squad here, probably it didn't allow us the flexibility in some ways to be able to change the combinations a little bit. But I think going forward, we've got to look at certain areas in which we can get better. "Finding depth in our batting has been an area we are trying to address. We are trying to do the best we possibly can but that's certainly an area we can look at, how we cannot weaken our bowling attack but ensure we have a certain amount of depth in batting," said Dravid on Sunday. Indian captain Hardik Pandya admitted that his lack of rhythm and slow approach became a turning point as his team lost momentum during the back-10 overs during the fifth T20 International against West Indies, here on Sunday. The Indian team under Pandya lost its first bilateral series in the shortest format the2-3 against the West Indies but the skipper harped on the positives, like emergence of youngsters like Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. "If you see, we lost that period post 10 overs. Since when I came, I wasn't able to capitalise and I took my time and could not finish," Pandya was forthright in his admission having scored 14 off 18 balls. On a slow track, Pandya defended his decision to bat first. "I believe that as a group we have to challenge ourselves. All these games are the games where we have to learn. We have spoken as a group that whenever we can take the hard way we will. "In hindsight, one series here or there doesn't matter but the commitment to the goal is .
India made no changes to their settled playing 11. They went in with the same team in the decider. West Indies made two changes in their playing 11, bringing back Alzarri Joseph and Roston Chase
Hogging the limelight with his phenomenal run in Tests and now in T20I cricket, talented Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal says this is just the start and he needs to makes sure he's "ready for tomorrow". Fresh from his exploits in IPL 2023, the 21-year-old left-hander made a smooth transition to Test cricket with a century on India debut and then followed it up with a half-century. Jaiswal then grabbed his opportunity in T20I cricket with an unbeaten 84 off 51 balls, his first fifty in second appearance in the shortest format. "It's just the start," Jaiswal told reporters after India's nine-wicket hammering of the West Indies here on Saturday. It kept the series alive at 2-2 to take it to the decider slated later on Sunday. "I want to keep doing and building on it. I'm happy today but I want to make sure that I'm ready for tomorrow also. "It (half-century) was really special, representing India is always a proud moment. Of course, there is a lot of thought and hard work behind it
Hardik Pandya made no changes in the Indian playing 11. Rovman Powell made three changes in West Indies playing 11 with Holder, Odean Smith and Shai Hope coming in for Roston Chase, Joseph and Charles

India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey says pacer Mukesh Kumar has shown potential to serve India in all three formats and his workload will be managed accordingly. The rookier pacer got to make his debut in all three formats on the tour of West Indies. Speaking ahead of the fourth T20I in Florida, Mhambrey expressed satisfaction with Mukesh's progress. "Very happy with the way he has progressed; the thought process, the discussion we had with him and his approach towards the game is fabulous. "You need someone like him to come here on a tour and play against tough opponents on a different wicket which is never easy. But the way he has gone about it and the character he has shown (makes us) extremely happy. "Going forward, since we know he is capable of playing all three formats, we need to be smart with his workload management. He has played a lot of domestic cricket and got quality skills out there," Mhambrey said on Friday. Compared to the slow wickets in the Caribbean, the bowlin
India will hope that batsmen will helm their march towards a series-levelling victory over the West Indies with another impact effort in the fourth T20 International here on Saturday. India might have stayed afloat with a win in the third T20I but Windies still lead the series 2-1, a quick reminder to the fact that the visitors still have concerns surrounding the batting unit. It was a comforting sight indeed to see Suryakumar Yadav flicking on his beast mode and Tilak Varma chipping in with crucial runs. But India's opening combination continued to falter. India had handed T20I debut to Yashasvi Jaiswal, resting Ishan Kishan. But for the third successive match, the pair at the totem pole position failed to impress, making just six runs. Jaiswal got out to pacer Obed McCoy in the first over itself. In the previous two matches, Kishan and Shubman Gill had managed to score just five and 16 for the first wicket to place some amount of pressure on the middle-order. Whether India will
After his swashbuckling 44-ball 83, Suryakumar candidly responded to the questions about the ODI form and India's World Cup preparations.
India skipper Hardik Pandya on Tuesday made it clear that his team will continue to play with seven batters as he doesn't want to compromise on the bowling front. India's long tail was questioned after the loss in the first two games of the five-match series against West Indies. Speaking after India's seven-wicket win in the third T20, Hardik said seven batting options are enough in the playing eleven. "As a group we have decided to bat with seven batters and we have to take responsibility, like it happened today if the batters score runs then you don't need someone at number eight," said the skipper. Hardik also heaped praise on his deputy Suryakumar Yadav for his match-winning 83 off 44 balls. "As Surya mentioned, they (SKY and Tilak Varma) play together and spend time together, good to have someone like SKY in the team and when he takes responsibility it sends a message to the others," said Hardik. Tilak Varma, playing his debut series, remained unbeaten on 49 off 37 balls as

Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif asserted on Monday that the Indian team has the capability to win the World Cup at home this year and it should not be judged on the basis of two T20I losses in the West Indies. India, after winning the two-Test series and ODIs in the Caribbean, are trailing 0-2 in the five-match T20I series, leading to criticism over the side's preparations ahead of two major competitions -- the Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka and the ODI World Cup at home. However, Kaif said at a function here that the fears of India under-performing in the World Cup were unfounded, although he indicated that pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah will have to be fully fit for the hosts to end the title drought. "India has lost just two matches (T20Is against West Indies), so we do not need to get overly concerned. I am seeing a lot of negative reaction after the two losses. But I will only say that our team is extremely competitive. "I am not going to judge (India) on two back-to-back losse
West Indies' wicketkeeper batsman Nicholas Pooran, the hero of their two-wicket victory over India in the second T20 International, on Monday has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for publicly criticising the umpires during the match here. Pooran's was a Level 1 offence and he was found to have breached Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel, which relates to "public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match". Pooran admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction of a reprimand that was proposed by match referee, Richie Richardson, and as such there was no need for a formal hearing. In addition to this, one demerit point has also been added to Pooran's disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period. The incident occurred following the review of a LBW decision in the fourth over of the India innings. Pooran criticised the umpires for having to use up a player review for a ..
India will need to bat with the fearlessness they often talk about as they look to avoid a series defeat in the third T20 International against the West Indies here on Tuesday. The slow pitches on offer have not been the best for batting but as skipper Hardik Pandya pointed out after the loss on Sunday, India should have a found way to score additional 10-20 runs. India, who last lost to the West Indies in a bilateral T20 series back in 2016, trail 0-2 in the five-match series. The shortest format demands the batters to go hard from ball one and that is something India's top-order, comprising Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav, have not been able to do. The top-order's failure has put extra pressure on the likes of Sanju Samson and rookie Tilak Varma, who has taken to international cricket like fish to water. With focus on ODIs in a World Cup year, Gill, Kishan and Suryakumar would want to be amongst runs ahead of the Asia Cup beginning August 31. "Batters need to ta
