The Air India's Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul facility being built in Bengaluru is not only expected to generate over 1,200 new job opportunities for skilled aviation engineers in India, but it will also create seven times more indirect jobs for the local population, said Air India CEO and managing director Campbell Wilson on Wednesday. A 27-year old Indian-origin engineer at a crypto asset trading platform has pleaded guilty to charges of commodities fraud. Nishad Singh was the former co-lead engineer of FTX Trading Ltd. He is facing federal charges for his role in a multiyear scheme to defraud equity investors in FTX, the crypto trading platform started by Singh along with Samuel Bankman-Fried and Gary Wang. In December last year, federal authorities had charged Bankman-Fried with orchestrating a scheme to defraud equity investors in FTX. The Securities and Exchange Commission charged Singh Tuesday. In a parallel action, the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) also announced charges against Singh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted people on Engineer's Day and said India is blessed to have a skilled and talented pool of engineers contributing to nation building. Engineer's Day is observed to mark the birth anniversary of engineer statesman M Visvesvaraya, a diwan of erstwhile Mysore kingdom, who is credited with pioneering engineering works. Significant efforts need to be made to improve employability in the engineering sector as less than 8 per cent of Indian engineers are employable in core engineering roles, reveals an Aspiring Minds' report. The National Employability Report for the first time this year looked into the employability of specialised and new careers, which are available to engineers, other than core IT and software roles. The nationwide analysis based on a sample of 1,50,000 engineers showed there was a huge gap in skills of engineers, as needed, to work in the large industry. "There are several problems with regard to employability in core engineering roles. We need to excite students about these jobs. Everyone's focus today is on IT. We want students to design and build things.
