More than 5.59 lakh job aspirants are slated to appear in an examination for 4,002 vacancies of police constables in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Saturday. The test is scheduled to commence across the Union Territory from Sunday. A group of youngsters, meanwhile, staged a demonstration here, reiterating their demand for age relaxation and rescheduling of the examination. "A total of 5,59,135 candidates are scheduled to appear in the exams for 4,002 posts of constables (home department) to be held on December 1, December 8 and December 22," Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) Chairperson Indu Kanwal Chib said at a meeting here. The meeting of the civil administration and police department was convened by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo to take stock of the preparations made by the deputy commissioners to conduct the exams. The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday said that 85,152 posts of headmasters and assistant teachers are vacant in the state, but taking shiksha mitras and instructors into account, the student-teacher ratio is complete and there is no problem in teaching. "At present, under the Basic Education Department, both shiksha mitra and instructor cooperate in studies," Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh said while answering the questions of Samajwadi Party members Anil Pradhan and Abhay Singh during the Question Hour in the budget session of the legislative assembly. Singh said that in basic education, the number of teachers, including part-time instructors, shiksha mitras and assistant teachers is currently 6,28,915 in the state. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday sought detailed reports on the vacancies in all state departments and directed that steps be taken to speed up the recruitment process a various levels. The chief minister noted that there were a large number of vacancies in various departments in Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya, Mathura, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Ghaziabad districts due to which many important projects are being affected, the state government said in a statement here. Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan on Monday said vacant government posts in tribal areas, especially in the education department, would be filled on priority to ensure that education is not hampered for the want of teachers. Presiding over a meeting of the cabinet subcommittee on employment opportunities here, he said that around 70,000 posts of different categories are lying vacant in various departments. Of these, 16,000 posts are vacant in the education department and the government is looking forward to filling up these posts at the earliest, he said. The state has two tribal districts -- Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti. There are also tribal areas in Chamba and Sirmaur districts. Vacancy levels of office spaces remained stable at 16.4 per cent during January-March across six major cities compared to the previous quarter with new supply being in line with current demand, according to Colliers. While Delhi-NCR, Pune and Hyderabad saw an increase in vacancy levels, Chennai witnessed a sharp decline. The vacancy levels of office space in Mumbai and Bengaluru remained by and large stable, the data showed. Real estate consultant Colliers India noted that new supply largely treaded alongside demand in most of the markets, resulting in stable vacancy levels. As many as 35.7 lakh vacancies were registered on National Career Service (NCS) in 2022-23, which is a record so far, the labour ministry said on Tuesday. The Ministry of Labour and Employment is implementing the National Career Service (NCS) Project as a Mission Mode Project for the transformation of the National Employment Service to provide a variety of employment-related services like job matching, career counselling, vocational guidance, information on skill development courses, internships etc. The services under NCS are available online, which was dedicated to the nation by the Prime Minister in 2015. NCS portal has registered the highest vacancies during 2022-23 since its launch in July 2015, a labour ministry statement said. Around 35.7 lakh vacancies have been reported by employers on NCS during 2022-23 compared to around 13 lakh vacancies in 2021-22.
