Chris Woakes, known for his all-round abilities and steady performances, has surprisingly missed the cut for the IPL 2025 auction
Former England captain Alastair Cook feels Joe Root has the potential to surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar as the leading run-getter in Test cricket thanks to his insatiable hunger and incredible talent. The 33-year-old Root currently has 12716 Test runs and is 3205 short of the Indian icon (15921). Root occupies the fifth spot in the leading run-getter's chart at the moment with Rahul Dravid (13,288), Jacques Kallis (13,289) and Ricky Ponting (13,378) and Tendulkar ahead of him. "I think Joe Root could set a mark, certainly on an English side, that'll be very hard to beat. But, you just never know," Cook was quoted as saying by the ICC. "I hope he can get very close, if not be the first person who scores 16,000 Test runs. It'd be a great achievement." Root overtook Cook as England's leading run-scorer in the longest format during the Multan Test against Pakistan earlier this month. Having watched his compatriot go past him to become England's most decorated batter, the ...

The England Test squad members will split across Chandigarh and Bengaluru during the one-week break they have got ahead of the fifth and final Test against India beginning March 7 in Dharamsala. The side has conceded a series-deciding 1-3 lead after going down by five wickets in the fourth Test here on Monday. In the long break between the second and third Test, the whole of England squad had spent its free time in Abu Dhabi. It was also in Abu Dhabi that the Ben Stokes-led side had trained before arriving in India for the series that began on January 25. However, the players have chosen Chandigarh and Bengaluru for the week leading up to the Dharamsala Test. "The squad will be split across Chandigarh and Bengaluru before the fifth Test. They are unlikely to hit the nets during the break. The squad arrives in Dharamsala about three days before the Test (March 4)," an ECB source told PTI. The loss against India is the visitors' first series defeat in the 'Bazball' era.
Root, who has 11.615 runs in Tests, 6,522 in ODIs and 893 in T20Is, has amassed a total of 19,030 runs across all three formats in 443 innings
Joe Root did not bring out the sweep shot until he faced his 115th ball on a clement Friday at Ranchi and unleashed only a solitary reverse sweep while constructing a slow-burning hundred to save the day for England. Root's unbeaten 106 off 226 balls, which was made at a strike rate of 46.90, was, perhaps, the most anti-Bazball innings that might have been played in the Brendon McCullum era. But then Root needed to rediscover that dogged Yorkie inside him for himself and the team. He entered the fourth Test against India on the back of 29, 2, 5, 16, 18, 7 in his last Test innings and that 18 in the first innings at Rajkot might have hurt him deeply. England were at a dominant 224 for two, well in sight of India's first innings total of 445. But Root decided to reverse lap Jasprit Bumrah for Yashasvi Jaiswal to pull off a smart catch at slip. His dismissal sparked an England collapse as the tourists were bundled out for 319, and India converted that lead into a record victory and
Senior England batter Joe Root on Saturday said that his side's 'Bazball' approach in Test cricket is not about being arrogant but about getting the best result for the team. England's record 434-run loss to India in the third Test in Rajkot led to widespread criticism about their ultra-aggressive approach they have adopted under coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes. "There have been times recently when the best way to do that is by being a bit more aggressive. It's like if I connect with that shot and execute it better, (Jasprit) Bumrah will be under pressure and our outlook on the game is very different again. "It's not about being arrogant... Bazball is a word that's used a lot but that's your word, that's not how we look at it," Root told reporters after the end of second day's play in the fourth Test here. "It's about how can we get the best out of each other as a team, how we're going to get better as a group. You're not always going to get it right but we'll continu

England under Ben Stokes are not big on team meetings and prefer organic conversations about the game to get the best out of players, says the team's batting mainstay Joe Root. Root, who is yet to make big runs in the ongoing Test series against India, has fully bought into England's aggressive style of play in the longest format. Their five-match series against India is locked at 1-1 after the hosts bounced back to trump 'Bazball' here on Monday in the second Test. "We don't really do team meetings anymore. That's one of the great things about how we do all of our conversations away from the game and just that enjoyment and buzz about spending time with each other," Root had told 'Jio Cinema' before the game here. "We don't have to sit in a meeting room and I think it's more authentic and more genuine when you can have it around a dinner table. Having a coffee in the morning or whatever, I think that's when you do your best learning," he said. England found themselves trailing Ind

England pacer James Anderson allayed concerns after prolific batter Joe Root was forced to leave the field following a blow on his right little finger during Day 3 of the second Test against India here on Sunday. Root sustained the injury during the 18th over of India's second innings when he tried to catch an edge from Shubman Gill in the slips. Facing a length ball on off from spinner Tom Hartley, Gill went forward and played with hard hands, only to get a thick edge which flew towards the left of Root in the slip cordon. He managed to get a finger to the ball but could not complete the catch and the ball went for a boundary. "Joe Root sustained an external blow to his right little finger, attempting a slip catch in the first session of D3. The England medical team will keep him off the field for the time being to treat and ice," England team management said in an update. The former skipper did not return to the field with teammate Anderson saying the team management didn't want
