Security forces and terrorists exchanged fire twice briefly within a span of four hours in a forest area in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, officials said on Wednesday. They said the firing was first reported at Kalaan Bhata at 10.45 pm on Tuesday and then near Panchan Bhata at 2 am during the ongoing anti-terrorist operation in the Desa forest area, where four Army personnel were killed in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Two terrorists are believed to be killed while two security personnel sustained injuries in an encounter that broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday, officials said. The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Watergam area of Baramulla district on Wednesday morning following information about the presence of ultras there, they said. The officials said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened firing on the security forces. A senior police official said two bodies have been seen at the scene of the gunbattle but have not been retrieved so far. He added that two security personnel -- a cop and an army jawan -- were injured in the exchange of firing with the terrorists.
Terrorists opened fire at a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district on Sunday evening, killing nine people and injuring 33, police said. The 53-seater bus, enroute from Shiv Khori temple to Katra, veered off the road following the gunfire and fell into a deep gorge. The incident took place around 6.15 pm near Teryath village in Poni area. "Nine pilgrims were killed and 33 injured," Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Mohita Sharma told reporters. The attack marks a significant escalation in violence in the region. Reasi district has been relatively untouched by terrorist activities compared to neighbouring areas such as Rajouri and Poonch.
The Kashmir unit of State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Friday filed a charge sheet against three people, including a Pakistan-based terrorist, in a special court in Kulgam district in a case related to promoting secessionist ideologies. "The SIA Kashmir filed a charge sheet against Sarjan Barkati (alias Sarjan Ahmad Wagay), his wife and Abdul Hamid Lone alias Hamid Mawar, an active terrorist of HM based in Pakistan, absconding in this case, before the Special UAPA court, Kulgam," an official spokesman said here. Two militants were killed and a policeman was injured during encounters in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag and Bandipora districts on Monday, police said. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Khagund in Anantnag district's Verinag area following information about the presence of militants there, an official said.
