Two terrorists are believed to be killed while two security personnel sustained injuries in an encounter that broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday, officials said. The security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Watergam area of Baramulla district on Wednesday morning following information about the presence of ultras there, they said. The officials said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened firing on the security forces. A senior police official said two bodies have been seen at the scene of the gunbattle but have not been retrieved so far. He added that two security personnel -- a cop and an army jawan -- were injured in the exchange of firing with the terrorists.
Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina along with his party colleague and former deputy chief minister Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday visited the house of slain Kashmiri pandit Puran Krishan Bhat here to express their condolences with the family, a party spokesman said. Bhat was shot dead by terrorists outside his ancestral house in Shopian district of south Kashmir on Saturday. Raina and Gupta visited the house of the slain Bhat at Muthi on the outskirts of Jammu and expressed their condolences with the bereaved family, the spokesman said. He said Raina assured support to the victim's family and also said that justice will be done with them.

Militants abducted and killed a 23-year-old Territorial Army jawan and his bullet-riddled body was found today in Shopian district of south Kashmir, the Army said. The body was recovered from an orchard area in Watmullah Keegam area of Shopian, an Army official said. He said the deceased was identified as Irfan Ahmad Mir, a resident of Sezan Keegam. Mir was working in the Territorial Army and was abducted by militants and later killed, the official said, adding that further details were awaited. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti condemned Mir's killing. "Strongly condemn the brutal killing of Irfan Ahmed ,a brave Territorial Army soldier at Shopian. Such heinous acts will not weaken our resolve to establish peace and normalcy in the Valley," Mehbooba said on Twitter.
