Maruti Suzuki India on Monday introduced the all-new version of its compact sedan Dzire and said the automaker would continue to cater to all customer segments in order to preserve its high market share in the domestic market. The automaker introduced the new Dzire priced between Rs 6.79 lakh and Rs 10.14 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). While the SUV segment has been growing, other segments are also important to the company in order to maintain high market share, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi told reporters here. He said Dzire has been a global success for the automaker with around 30 lakh units sold so far across markets. Takeuchi noted that the company has invested around Rs 1,000 crore on the development of the model. Car market leader Maruti Suzuki India cut production of its passenger cars by 16 per cent last month but increased those of utility vehicles by 33 per cent compared to October 2023, according to a regulatory filing by the company. Its passenger cars production stood at 89,174 units last month against 1,06,190 units in October 2023, down 16 per cent, Maruti Suzuki India said in the filing. On the other hand, production of utility vehicles, including Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Jimny, XL6 and those supplied to Toyota Kirloskar Motor, rose 33.18 per cent to 72,339 units from 54,316 units in the year-ago month. Production of mini cars comprising Alto and S-Presso was down at 12,787 units last month against 14,073 units in October 2023. Similarly, production of compact cars Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, WagonR and those supplied to Toyota Kirloskar Motor were lower at 75,007 units compared to 90,783 units in the same month last year. With a record October month behind, the country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India is banking on a "few lakhs marriages" slated for November to carry forward the festive sales momentum, according to a senior company official. The company clocked retail sales of 2,02,402 units last month, which is its highest for any October month on the back of festive sales, breaking the previous record of 1,91,476 units posted in October 2020. "We are made to understand that some 'few lakhs' marriages are being planned across the country (in November). So we are pretty hopeful that it will also give us good traction in terms of our retail sales," Maruti Suzuki India Ltd Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Partho Banerjee told PTI. Suzuki Motor Corporation on Wednesday said it will focus on aspects like light body structures and usage of small batteries to power its models including electric vehicles across various markets, including India. Maruti Suzuki India expects its CNG car sales to rise over 30 per cent to around 6 lakh units this fiscal, according to a senior company official. The country's largest carmaker also aims to export around 3 lakh units in the ongoing financial year. "So CNG, this year, we did about 4,50,000 (units) in passenger vehicles. We are hoping to do something like 6,00,000 vehicles in FY24-25," Maruti Suzuki India Executive Director Corporate Affairs Rahul Bharti said in an analyst call. The company sells CNG trims across various models like WagonR, Brezza, Dzire, and Ertiga, among others in the domestic market. Bharti said the company's capacity expansion by around 1 lakh units per annum at its Manesar plant, Haryana largely addresses the Ertiga supply issues. Betting big on the entry-level segment, Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday said it will continue to "re-energise" the small car segment as the automaker expects the vertical to revive over the next few years, according to MD & CEO Hisashi Takeuchi. Speaking at the launch of the new generation Swift here, he noted that the automaker aims to cater to the diverse needs of customers as it aims to sell 40 lakh units by 2030-31. Passenger vehicle wholesales in India rose by 8.4 per cent year-on-year to 42,18,746 units in financial year 2023-24, industry body SIAM said on Friday. The overall passenger vehicle dispatches stood at 38,90,114 units in fiscal year 2022-23. Two-wheeler sales were up 13.3 per cent last fiscal at 1,79,74,365 units, as compared to 1,58,62,771 units in the financial year 2022-23. Vehicle sales across categories rose by 12.5 per cent to 2,38,53,463 units in the period under review, as against 2,12,04,846 units in fiscal year 2022-23.
