The 2024 Mercer's Cost of Living survey assessed 226 cities based on the cost of more than 200 items, including transportation, food, clothing, entertainment

Tel Aviv, which topped the rankings last year, was bumped into third position, while Hong Kong and Los Angeles rounded out the top five priciest places

The soaring shekel and price increases for goods including groceries and transport were the main factors in Tel Aviv taking the top spot

The changes are especially marked this time around, with the report doubling as an assessment of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on prices around the world.

The other Indian cities in the list include, New Delhi at 118th place, Chennai (154), Bengaluru (179) and Kolkata (189). All the four cities have moved down from last year.
