The India round of the MotoGP championship will not not take place on the scheduled date in September and instead has been moved to March 2025, local promoters of the race told PTI on Tuesday. Reports claiming that the race promoters had not cleared all their dues with rights holders Dorna after the inaugural round last year had led to uncertainty over the second edition scheduled from September 20-22. However, after Tuesday's meeting involving all stakeholders -- Dorna, and, co-promoters Fairstreet Sports and Uttar Pradesh government -- it was decided to shift the round to a yet to be decided date in March. "It was mutually decided to shift the race to March next year. We are looking at first or second week of March. All the stakeholders including Dorna agreed that the September weather is not conducive for the race and it is tough on the riders and marshals as experienced last year," Fairstreet Sports CEO Pushkar Nath Srivastava told PTI. Promoters of the MotopGP round in India on Tuesday insisted the September race will go on as per schedule and dismissed the report claiming that Kazakhstan will replace India on the 2024 calendar. Leading motorsport website 'Autosport' has reported that Kazakhstan is to set replace India as local promoters Fairstreets Sports have not paid their partial dues to MotoGP right holders Dorna. However, Fairstreets Sports CEO Pushkar Nath Srivastava, said the round, scheduled from September 20-22, remains part of the calendar and all contractual obligations will be met next month. The inaugural MotoGP race in India was held in Greater Noida last year after Faristreet Sports and Dorna signed a seven-year agreement. Honda's MotoGP team and former world champion Marc Mrquez will be ending their 11-year partnership at the end of the season, the Japanese engine maker said Wednesday. Driving a Honda, Mrquez won six world championships, won 59 races, and secured 64 pole positions in the MotoGP class. His last world championship came in 2019. The 30-year-old Spaniard has struggled with injury since he broke his right arm in the 2020 opener. He is currently 15th in the points standings. The agreement will cut short Mrquez's current contract by a year. Both parties agreed it was in their best interests to each pursue other avenues in the future to best achieve their respective goals and targets, Honda said in a statement.

The Uttar Pradesh government Tuesday said the first ever MotoGP event held in Greater Noida saw a footfall of more than one lakh people from India and around the world whilst registering business of over Rs 930 crore. The high-pulsating event was held from September 22 to 24. With a huge crowd expected during the weekend to witness MotoGP race, Gautam Buddh Nagar traffic officials on Saturday said only those private cabs will be allowed inside Buddh International Circuit in which the customers have a pass for the event. Cabs like Uber, Ola, InDrive would drop the customers having race passes inside the BIC and leave. However, taxis hired for longer durations could stay in the parking areas at the venue and pick up the customer after the race, a senior official said. The race will take place at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) along the Yamuna Expressway in the Dankaur area, over 50 km off New Delhi. The police have already enforced diversions for commercial vehicles entering Noida via DND or Greater Noida via Yamuna Expressway in order to reduce congestion on key roads for Saturday and Sunday. Vehicles carrying essential goods will face no restriction between 12 am and 6 am, 12 pm and 3 pm while there are no restrictions on movement of ambulances.

Sources in Repsol Honda Team confirmed to PTI that the arrival of its riders Marquez and Joan Mir in India has been delayed due to visa issues. Both the Spanish drivers were scheduled to visit the Honda India factory in Manesar on Wednesday but now that visit stands cancelled. "The riders are yet to reach India due to visa issues. Apollo Hospitals on Monday said it has tied up with MotoGP Bharat Grand Prix to provide medical support for the event. The capital-based Indraprastha Apollo Hospital would provide support for the first-ever MotoGP event in India to be held between September 22-24 at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. "This partnership is a testament to the diverse strengths that Apollo has to offer to the world," Apollo Hospitals Group Chairman Prathap C Reddy said in a statement. As India gears up to host its maiden MotoGP event at the Buddha International Circuit in Greater Noida in a fortnight, the "sluggish pace" of raising infrastructure at the local level has officials worried. Sources told PTI that hundreds of signages and over two dozen cameras are yet to be installed along the highways that pass through Noida and Greater Noida up to the venue along the Yamuna Expressway. Some signages installed already have lost visibility due to trees or need modification. Besides these, two key underpasses -- at Advant Navis building and at Sector 96 -- on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway are non-functional while several road patches require resurfacing. "The concerns have been raised with the three local authorities -- the Noida Authority, Greater Noida Authority and the Yamuna Expressway Authority -- for the works related to their areas.
