Mahindra Group-owned iconic motorcycle brand BSA made its debut in India on Thursday with the launch of 652-cc Gold Star 650 model priced at Rs 2.99 lakh (ex showroom Delhi). One of the oldest motorcycle companies in the world, Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA), was acquired by the Mahindra group's premium motorcycles arm Classic Legends in 2016. Classic Legends sells Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles in the country. The BSA Gold Star 650, which made a comeback in the UK in 2021, is currently being sold in Europe, Turkey, New Zealand, and the Philippines. "Bringing BSA to India is about sharing a piece of world motorcycling history with India. That indomitable spirit of BSA, a brand built in the fires of battle, is imbued in the new Gold Star," said Anand Mahindra, Chairman Mahindra Group at the launch. TVS Motor, which manufactures two-wheeler and three-wheeler vehicles, has registered a 25 per cent growth in sales in April, having sold 3,83,615 units this year compared to 3,06,224 units during the same month last year, the company said on Wednesday. Sales of total two-wheelers made in April this year went up by 27 per cent to 3,74,592 units, from 2,94,786 units sold in April 2023. Sales of two-wheelers in the domestic market also grew by 29 per cent to 3,01,449 units in April this year compared to 2,32,956 units sales made in same month of last year. Motorcycle sales recorded a growth of 24 per cent in April 2024 at 1,88,110 units, from 1,52,365 units retailed in April 2023. Sales of scooters in April 2024 grew by 34 per cent to 1,44,126 units as against 1,07,496 units made in April 2023. Motorcycle manufacturer Royal Enfield, a unit of Eicher Motors Ltd, has earmarked investments of Rs 3,000 crore spread over a period of eight years in Tamil Nadu towards development of new products, the company said on Monday. The investments are expected to generate about 2,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region. As per a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Tamil Nadu government during the Global Investors Meet here, the investments would be used to set up greenfield and brownfield projects in the region, among other things. This investment will be mainly used for the development of new products, Electric Vehicles (EVs) product development and capacity building and also additionally for any capacity enhancement for ICE (internal combustion engine), whenever required, a release from the company said. Motorcycle maker Royal Enfield on Friday announced the commencement of operations of its assembly unit in Nepal. The unit has been set up in collaboration with the Triveni Group of Nepal. The complete knocked down (CKD) assembly unit has an annual capacity of 20,000 units. It will begin operations with local assembly of the new Classic 350 and the SCRAM 411 for Nepal, Royal Enfield said in a statement. "Located in Birgunj, the new facility is the Royal Enfield's fifth CKD assembly unit in the world - after Brazil, Thailand, Colombia and Argentina," the company said. Royal Enfield CEO B Govindarajan said, "This new CKD facility in Nepal is in line with our ambitious global expansion strategy of investing in markets with huge potential to grow." Shares of Bajaj Auto on Thursday gained nearly 3 per cent after the company reported 24 per jump in its total sales in June 2021. The stock jumped 2.82 per cent to Rs 4,250 on BSE. On NSE, it gained 2.80 per cent to Rs 4,250. Bajaj Auto on Thursday reported 24 per jump in its total sales at 3,46,136 units in June 2021. The company had sold 2,78,097 units in the same month a year ago. Domestic sales in June this year were at 1,61,836 units as against 1,51,189 units, up 7 per cent, Bajaj Auto said in a regulatory filing. Total motorcycle sales stood at 3,10,578 units, an increase of 22 per cent, as compared to 2,55,122 units sold in June last year.
Japanese two-wheeler major Yamaha on Friday launched the FZ-X, its first neo-retro motorcycle in India, with prices starting at Rs 1,16,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company also unveiled a new hybrid variant of its scooter model Fascino 125 as it looks to bring "technologically advanced products that cater to the growing requirements of young Indian customers". The FZ-X model is powered by an air-cooled, 4-stroke, 149cc engine with a peak power of 12.4PS of peak power at 7,250 rpm.
