Maharashtra govt to set up media centre to monitor news content

The Maharashtra government will set up a media monitoring centre to analyse news content of the print, electronic and digital media, and has allocated a budget of Rs 10 crore for the purpose. The centre will collect and analyse all factual and misleading news reports in print and broadcast media, and prepare a factual report, according to a government resolution (GR) published on Wednesday. If there is a misleading news, it will be clarified in real-time. If there is a negative news, clarification will be given expeditiously, it said. Apple pulls error-prone AI-generated news feature in beta iPhone software

Apple is suspending an error-prone feature that used artificial intelligence to deliver bogus news alerts to some iPhone owners. The decision was disclosed Thursday as part of a test version for the next software release, iOS 18.3. The beta version is only available to a relatively small group of iPhone users and developers, but the same features are usually released in an update available to all users several weeks after the testing begins. In the beta update, Apple said it is disabling the AI-generated feature for news and entertainment while it tries to fix the issue causing the technology to fabricate information a problem often described as hallucinations within the industry. Similar software updates for Apple's iPad and Mac computers are also in a testing phase. Even if it is just temporary, the suspension represents a blow to Apple's efforts to bring AI to the iPhone and its other products. The push began in earnest last September with the debut of the iPhone 16, which is ..

Media baron Subhash Chandra on Monday said despite various challenges, Zee Media remains committed to deliver unbiased and credible news focused on public interest. Addressing a press conference here, he asked all stakeholders, including viewers and regulatory bodies, to recognise and stand against the threats to press freedom. "A free and independent media is crucial for the health of our beloved country in terms of its economy, the social structure, protection of weaker people of society, reduction of corruption and finally the democracy," Chandra said. Facebook News tab will soon be unavailable as Meta scales back content

Meta will be sunsetting Facebook News in early April for users in the US and Australia as the platform further deemphasises news and politics. The feature was shut down in the UK, France and Germany last year. Launched in 2019, the News tab curated headlines from national and international news organisations, as well as smaller, local publications. Meta says users will still be able to view links to news articles, and news organisations will still be able to post and promote their stories and websites, as any other individual or organisation can on Facebook. The change comes as Meta tries to scale back news and political content on its platforms following years of criticism about how it handles misinformation and whether it contributes to political polarisation. "This change does not impact posts from accounts people choose to follow; it impacts what the system recommends, and people can control if they want more," said Dani Lever, a Meta spokesperson. "This announcement expands on
