Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, the subsidiary of Italian automaker Piaggio & C. SpA, has sold about 26,000 units of its electric three-wheelers this year. The Indian subsidiary had retailed about 12,000 units last year, Amit Sagar, the company's Executive Vice President, Commercial Vehicles said on Thursday. Piaggio Vehicles today launched its first 3-wheeler passenger EV -- Ape E-city FX NE Max in Tamil Nadu priced at Rs 3.46 lakh. The passenger vehicle is an addition to the existing cargo range of vehicles. "We are not only launching a product today, we are launching a mindset, we are launching a new way of commuting," Sagar told reporters, after unveiling Ape E-city FX NE Max passenger that is equipped with a driving range of 145 kms on a single charge. Italy's Piaggio Group aims to enhance its presence in the premium two-wheeler segment in India, as more and more customers seek feature-rich options for mobility requirements, according to a top company executive. The company, which is present in India through a wholly-owned subsidiary -- Piaggio Vehicles, has forayed into the growing mid-size bike segment by unveiling Aprilia RS 457. The company already sells five premium scooter models under Aprilia and Vespa brands, in the country. "What we have seen is that more and more customers are seeking something more to satisfy their need for mobility. They are looking for feature-rich models, a trend which is already there in various countries," Piaggio Vehicles Chairman and MD Diego Graffi said. Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd (PVPL), the Indian subsidiary of Italian auto major Piaggio Group, on Tuesday announced the entry of its electric three-wheeler Ape Electrik in the Philippines for last-mile mobility. The electric three-wheeler will be manufactured at PVPL's Baramati manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. "For Piaggio Vehicles, entry into the Philippines is a stepping-stone towards accelerating the adoption of EVs across the world and towards a sustainable planet. Piaggio India on Thursday launched a new range of superbikes, including Aprilia RS 660, Tuono 660, Aprilia RSV4, Tuono V4 as well as the iconic Moto Guzzi V85TT. The prices of the new superbikes start from Rs 13.09 lakh and go up to Rs 23.69 lakh, Piaggio India said in a release. Piaggio India, the maker of premium Vespa scooter, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Italian auto major Piaggio Group. The bikes will be available for customers across all its Motoplex dealerships pan-India, it said. "The newly-launched superbikes have attracted a massive following in India and all over the world.
