SL president Dissanayake says no regret over Adani exit from energy project

Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Dissanayake here on Monday said his government does not have any regret over Adani Group quitting its green energy projects in the island. "We have got an offer to provide wind power at 4.65 US cents so why would we cry over losing an offer at 8.26 cents?" Dissanayake, who is also the finance minister, said without naming the Adani Green Energy during his 2025 Budget presentation. Adani last week announced that they were quitting the over USD 400 million investment for its green energy project in the northeastern region of the island. Reliance Power back in the black: Reports Rs 42 cr net profit in Q3

Reliance Power on Wednesday posted a net profit of Rs 41.95 crore in the December quarter on account of higher income. It had reported a loss of Rs 1,136.75 crore in the year-ago quarter, the company said in an exchange filing. The company's total income rose to Rs 2,159.44 crore during the quarter from Rs 1,998.79 crore a year ago. Expenses stood at Rs 2,109.56 crore, lower as against Rs 3,167.49 crore in third quarter of the preceding financial year. In a statement, the company said it has achieved zero bank debt status, which means it has no outstanding balance to any bank -- private or public. Total debt servicing, including maturity repayment in the April-December period of FY25 was Rs 4,217 crore. As of December 31, the company's net worth stood at Rs 16,217 crore. About Rs 15 trn required for adding power generation capacity in 2022-27

About Rs 15 lakh crore fund is required to add electricity generation capacity during 2022-27, which includes expenditure for projects to be commissioned in 2027-32, a power ministry statement said. The projected electrical energy requirement and peak electricity demand on all-India basis is estimated as 1908 BU (billion units) and 277 GW, respectively for 2026-27. The projections were made during a Meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of Members of Parliament for Ministry of Power here last evening. Sembcorp Industries bags 300MW wind-solar hybrid project from NTPC

Sembcorp Industries on Wednesday said it has secured a 300 MW wind-solar hybrid project through its arm Sembcorp Green Infra from NTPC Ltd. The build-own-operate project is part of a 1.2GW bid issued by NTPC, a state-owned power giant, a company statement said. Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp), through its wholly-owned renewables subsidiary Sembcorp Green Infra Pvt Ltd, has received the Letter of Award (LOA) for a 300MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connected wind-solar hybrid power project (the Project) from NTPC Ltd, according to the statement. Subject to the execution of a power purchase agreement (PPA) and upon completion of the project, power output from the project will be sold to NTPC under a 25-year long-term PPA, it stated. JSW Neo Energy bags 192-MW power project from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam

JSW Energy on Monday said its arm JSW Neo Energy has secured a 192-MW hybrid power project, including an additional 96 MW under the greenshoe option from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam. The capacity is awarded against tariff-based competitive bids invited for setting up a 500 MW Grid connected Hybrid Power Projects (Phase II), along with a greenshoe option for additional capacity up to 500 MW, a company statement said. According to the statement, JSW Neo Energy -- a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy (or the company) -- has received a Letter of Intent (or LoI) from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), for setting up a 192 MW grid connected hybrid power project, including an additional 96 MW under the greenshoe option. India's power demand may cross 400 GW mark by 2031-32: Power Secretary

India's peak power demand may surpass the projected 384 GW mark and cross even a new level of 400 gigawatt (GW) by 2031-32, Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal said on Tuesday. Speaking at the CII-Smart Metering Conference, he said that peak power demand had already reached the 250 GW mark in May. "The way power demand has grown in some states in the last two years, the demand will touch 384 GW and may easily cross 400 GW by 2031-32. For this we must have an installed (power generation) capacity of 900 GW," Agarwal said. The government projection for this year's peak power demand was 260 GW. Later speaking to reporters, the secretary said the anticipated 260 GW peak demand is expected to reach by September. At the onset of the monsoon, the peak power demand has been showing a downward trend over the last few days. As per official data, the peak power demand was at 209 GW on Monday.

'Measures in place': Govt gears up to meet peak power demand in May, June

The government has taken adequate measures to meet the estimated 235 GW peak power demand in May and 240 GW in June, according to an official statement. "With various measures, we have been able to successfully meet the peak evening power demand of 224 GW during April 2024," the Ministry of Power on Friday. The power demand is projected to peak at 235 GW during the day-time and 225 GW during evening hours for May and 240 GW during day-time and 235 GW during evening hours for June 2024, it said in the statement. The power ministry has estimated around 260 GW of peak demand during this summer season. Elaborating on the measures, the ministry said section 11 directions have been issued to gas-based power plants besides coal-based units to make full capacity available for electricity generation. SJVN concludes first ever e-reverse auction for 1500 MW power projects

State-owned SJVN Ltd on Thursday announced concluding an e-reverse auction process for selecting renewable energy developers for its 1,500-MW power projects. This is the first ever such auction process conducted by SJVN, the company said in a statement. "SJVN successfully concludes the E-Reverse Auction for 1500 MW power projects with energy storage system. As a Renewable Energy Implementing Agency (REIA), SJVN has successfully concluded its first ever e-reverse auction (e-RA) for selection of RE power developers for supply of 1,500 MW power projects with energy storage system in India," SJVN CMD Nand Lal Sharma said in the statement.
