Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw should channelise his energies into getting super-fit and, before that, must get off social media if he wants to once again savour the sweet taste of success, former England batter Kevin Pietersen said while vouching for his talent. Shaw, who had started with a Test hundred on debut as a teenager, is standing at the crossroads of his career at 25 after none of the IPL franchises were interested in bidding for him even for a lowly base price of Rs 75 lakh. Many, including former India ODI specialist Mohammed Kaif, feel that his off-field persona has definitely affected his on-field game as he flattered to deceive on numerous occasions. "Some of the greatest sports stories are COMEBACK stories. If Prithvi Shaw has decent people around him who care about his long term success, they'd sit him down, tell him to get off social media & train his absolute backside off in getting super fit. It'll get him back into the correct path where past success can return. Too talented to

Two days ago, a seemingly relaxed Prithvi Shaw appeared on a YouTube vlog where he spoke about the best ever one-line advice that he had once got from Sachin Tendulkar. "Discipline beats talent" was the maestro's terse tip for Shaw, the 25-year-old would tell social media influencer Karan Sonawane on the latter's YouTube channel 'Focussed Indian'. Monday must have been a difficult one for Shaw, who could not find takers at the IPL mega auction in Jeddah. The 2018 U-19 World Cup winning captain was seen as the next big thing in Indian cricket and expectations increased when he scored a century on Test debut six seasons ago. Perhaps now is the time when he needs to walk the talk and not just let Tendulkar's advice remain mere words. Twice his name came up at the auction and despite a base price of Rs 75 lakh, not one paddle went up for him. There was Sourav Ganguly at one table, Rahul Dravid at another. The wise men at the table also included Ashish Nehra, Parthiv Patel, Justin Lang

A court here on Wednesday directed police to conduct an enquiry into social media influencer Sapna Gill's complaint of molestation against cricketer Prithvi Shaw in 2023. Metropolitan Magistrate S C Tayde directed the police to submit a report of the enquiry by June 19. The court, however, dismissed Gill's plea seeking action against the police for not registering a First Information Report against Shaw and others on her complaint. Shaw had denied the allegations against him. Gill had alleged that Shaw had molested her at a pub in suburban Andheri. Gill was arrested in February 2023 with some others in connection with an attack on Shaw following an argument over clicking selfies at a suburban hotel. She is currently out on bail. After being granted bail, Gill had approached the Airport police station in Andheri with a complaint against Shaw, his friend Ashish Yadav and others for alleged molestation and outraging modesty. She later moved to magistrate court after police didn't

Prithvi Shaw on Wednesday was ruled out of the remainder of his stint with Northamptonshire, owing to a knee injury he suffered while fielding against Durham. Shaw had made an unbeaten 125 off 76 balls in that match on August 13 as Northamptonshire cruised to a six-wicket win. Prithvi injured his knee while fielding in the fixture against Durham and subsequent scan results received this morning have revealed the injury is worse than initially expected, the Northamptonshire stated in a media release. His run-making spree included a mammoth 244 off 153 balls against Somerset on August 9, leading Northants to an 87-run victory. John Sadler, the head coach of Northamptonshire, said it was a massive disappointment to let go of a player like Shaw. In his short stint Prithvi has made a huge impact on us as a club. It's a huge shame he won

Out-of-favour India opener Prithvi Shaw returned to form in style with a 153-ball 244 for Northamptonshire in England's One-Day Cup tournament against Somerset here on Wednesday. The 23-year-old, who is playing in his maiden county season, smashed 28 fours and 11 sixes en route to his second List A double century. This was his ninth List A century, and first since his 165 against Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinal when he led Mumbai to lift the title in 2020-21. Playing his third game for the Northamptonshire, Shaw reached his maiden hundred for the side off 81 balls. He then cruised to the 200-run mark off just 129 balls with the help of 24 fours and eight sixes to power Northamptonshire to 415/8 after they opted to bat. The Mumbai batter had struck an unbeaten 227 against Puducherry in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in February 2021 for his maiden List A double hundred. After a bright start to his career, Prithvi Shaw has now slipped down the India pecking order but the Mumbai youngster on Saturday said he is banking on his natural "aggressive" game to score runs and earn his place back in the national side. Shaw last appeared for India in a T20I match against Sri Lanka at Colombo in July 2021. "Personally, I feel I don't have to change my game, but a little smarter than what I am. I can't bat like Pujara sir bats or Pujara sir can't bat like me. "So, what I am trying to do are those things that have brought me here till, for example, the aggressive batting, I don't like to change that," said Shaw after West Zone's Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone at Alur. Shaw said he was looking to play as many games as possible at this stage of his career. The 23-year-old said every run would be very important for him in his endeavour to make a comeback. "I think whichever game for me right now is as important as anything. Even if I'm playing Dule

Redemption will be the central theme when a clutch of cricketers from the West Zone, including Cheteshwar Pujara and Prithvi Shaw, enter the field for the Duleep Trophy semifinals against Central Zone, starting here from Wednesday. For the crucial clash, the West Zone bring in Pujara, Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav and Sarfaraz Khan and all four batters need a career reboot. Pujara, a veteran of 103 Tests and over 7000 runs, has scripted tales of valour over the years. But now he finds himself out of reckoning for India. He was dropped from India's squad for the tour of West Indies after a modest outing during the World Test Championship final against Australia last month. He will be eager to make a statement of intent during the Duleep Trophy. Rewind to the cryptic tweet of him batting that was shared on his timeline soon after he was omitted from the Test squad. It is imperative then for him to be among runs because India will not be playing a Test series until later this year post their

A Mumbai court on Monday sent social media influencer Sapna Gill and three other accused to 14-day judicial custody in a case pertaining to alleged manhandling of Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and attacking his car. Gill and the other accused were produced before a magistrate court at the end of their initial police remand on Monday. The police sought an extension of the remand, saying they need to recover the baseball bat and the vehicle used in the alleged crime. However, the court rejected the plea and remanded the accused in judicial custody. Apart from the original charges of rioting and extortion, the police have also added Indian Penal Code Section 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) in the case. Gill's lawyer Kaashif Ali Khan said in the court that the additional section was added belatedly just to harass the accused. The incident took place last Wednesday outside a luxury hotel at Santacruz area of Mumbai following an
