Real Madrid's big stars turned on the style to revive the Spanish giant's faltering Champions League title defense. Galacticos Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham all scored in a thrilling 3-2 win at Italian league leader Atalanta. But Madrid still had to ride its luck as Mateo Retegui fired over from in front of goal in stoppage time when handed a golden chance to level the game. It was only Madrid's third win in the competition's revamped league phase and leaves the 15-time champion in the unseeded playoff positions in 18th place. It's a very important win. Not everyone wins here. We suffered and competed. In the Champions League, you have to suffer, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. It's still difficult to finish in the top eight, but we have two games left to earn points. Six-time champion Liverpool leads the way after maintaining its perfect record in Europe this season with a 1-0 win against Girona. Like Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain also picked up a much-neede
Carlo Ancelotti is convinced Kylin Mbapp will find a way out of the rut that has included two big penalty misses since his highly-anticipated move to Real Madrid, the Italian coach said Friday. Mbapp had spot kicks saved in losses at Liverpool and, most recently, Athletic Bilbao this week. After the 2-1 defeat in Bilbao, the France star said on social media that he took full responsibility for another disappointing performance. He is aware of what is going on. His post after the Athletic game is one of a player who knows how he is playing and that he can play better, Ancelotti said a day before Madrid visits Girona in La Liga. There are players who are unaware they are not playing up to their potential, but he is aware that he can do more, and he is going to do all he can to improve as soon as possible. Mbapp's arrival as a free agent this summer created huge expectations that arguably the world's top talent would quickly reach new heights, with an experienced side coming off a dou
Barcelona got back to winning in the Spanish league in style, routing Mallorca 5-1 with a pair of goals by Raphinha. Ferran Torres, Frenkie de Jong and Pau Vctor also scored for Barcelona, which hadn't won in three consecutive league games to allow Real Madrid to inch closer at the top of the standings. Madrid is now four points back although it has two games in hand. Torres, who got to start in place of league-leading scorer Robert Lewandowski, opened the scoring in the 12th minute after Mallorca defenders failed to clear an easy ball from inside the area. One defender tried to kick it away but it ended ricocheting off a teammate to give Ferran an easy shot on goal. The hosts equalized with Vedat Muriqi in a breakaway just before halftime in what was Mallorca's only shot on target, but Raphinha put Barcelona back in front by converting a 56th-minute penalty kick. He added to the lead in the 74th after a nice assist by Lamine Yamal. Raphinha now has 11 goals in 16 league games thi
Kylian Mbappe made some peace with Real Madrid's fans. Mbappe scored in Madrid's 2-0 win over Getafe in the Spanish league on Sunday to help ease the pressure on the France star. Mbapp, who has been criticized by some supporters because of his disappointing performances since joining the Spanish powerhouse this season, found the net in the 38th minute to seal Madrid's victory at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. Mbapp was coming off a lackluster outing which included a missed penalty kick against Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday. Jude Bellingham, also the target of some fans' criticism for recent poor play, had put Madrid ahead at the Bernabeu by converting a 30th-minute penalty. He also assisted in Mbapp's goal a well-placed low shot from outside the area. Mbapp had scored only once in the team's last six matches across all competitions, and twice in the last nine games. He played very well, was active and was as dangerous as always, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti ..
Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr. has a hamstring injury and will miss the midweek Champions League game at Liverpool, the team said Monday. The Brazil international was not included in the Madrid squad for Wednesday's game at Anfield. The team said in a medical update that Vinicius has been diagnosed with an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. His progress will be monitored. Vinicius played the full game Sunday for Madrid in a 3-0 victory over Leganes in La Liga.
There were plenty of jeers at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Before the match, when the Champions League anthem was played. And after the match, when Real Madrid saw its 15-game unbeaten run at home in the Champions League come to an end. Madrid fans still appeared upset by Vincius Jnior not winning the Ballon d'Or ceremony, and also with yet another poor performance by the team. Madrid followed up its 4-0 loss to Barcelona in the Spanish league "clasico" with a 3-1 defeat against AC Milan in the Champions League, and coach Carlo Ancelotti didn't hide his concerns. "We need to be worried, we are not showing the best version of ourselves," Ancelotti said. "We are not compact as a team and we need to change that. We lack order in the team and, as a result, we're conceding too many goals." Madrid, the European powerhouse that has a record 15 Champions League titles, has now conceded seven goals in four matches in the competition, with its other loss coming in a 1-0 defeat at Lille. I
Ancelotti has won multiple Champions League titles with Real as well but hasn't had the best start to this season, with the new format presenting unique challenges for the 15-time winners.
Real Madrid and the Spanish league on Sunday condemned racist insults against Lamine Yamal during Saturday's Clasico, and Madrid said it was working to identify those who abused the Barcelona forward. Madrid said it has opened an investigation in order to locate and identify the perpetrators of these deplorable and despicable insults so that the appropriate disciplinary and judicial measures can be taken. The league said it was going to formally denounce the intolerable racist insults and gestures against Barcelona players at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. The league said it strongly condemns these events and remains firm in its commitment to eradicate any type of racist behaviour and hatred inside and outside stadiums. There is no place for this scourge in sport. The reaction came after videos on social media showed the alleged insults against Yamal after he scored Barcelona's third goal in its 4-0 rout of Madrid. The 17-year-old celebrated in a corner in front of Madrid fans and

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is expected to miss Saturday's Clasico against Barcelona after sustaining a muscle injury in Tuesday's Champions League match. Courtois has "an adductor injury in his left leg," the team said Wednesday. The Belgium goalkeeper had been nursing an abductor injury recently. He missed most of last season with an ACL injury. Rodrygo is also expected to miss the Clasico, coach Carlo Ancelotti said Tuesday after the forward was substituted in the 85th minute of Madrid's 5-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund. Madrid trails Barcelona by three points in La Liga standings.
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo is doubtful for Saturday's clasico against Barcelona after leaving Tuesday's Champions League match because of a muscle injury. Rodrygo was substituted by Aurlien Tchouamni in the 85th minute of Madrid's 5-2 come-from-behind victory over Borussia Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said it is unlikely Rodrygo will play against Barcelona. The Brazil forward is expected to undergo further tests before Saturday's home game. Madrid trails Barcelona by three points in the Spanish league standings. Rodrygo had ice wrapped around his right leg after leaving the field Tuesday. The injury came just before Rodrygo assisted in Madrid's third goal by Lucas Vzquez, which put the team ahead after a 2-0 deficit in the first half.
Luka Modric became the oldest player in Real Madrid's history while also delivering the game-winning assist in a 2-1 victory at Celta Vigo in La Liga on Saturday. At 39 years, 40 days old, the former Ballon d'Or winner surpassed the milestone held by Ferenc Puskas since 1966 by four days. Modric went on as a second-half substitute after Celta pulled level. The Croatia midfielder immediately made an impact when he threaded a through-ball forward for Vincius Jnior to score the 66th-minute winner at Balaidos Stadium. It was a hard-fought game, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. But we knew how to hang in there and got three important points thanks to a great pass by Modric. Luka always gives us something. Kylian Mbapp put the visitors ahead with a long-range strike in the 20th, only for Williot Swedberg to equalize in the 51st from a cross by scar Mingueza. That set the scene for Ancelotti to look to his bench and call on Modric to set things right for the defending champion. When a
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says Kylian Mbapp is not affected by the Swedish media reports this week that said the France captain was the subject of a rape investigation. Mbapp's legal team dismissed those reports as false. I do not pay attention to speculations that come from outside the team. The player is not affected in the least, Ancelotti said Friday. The reports in Swedish media came out after the striker visited Stockholm during the international break when he was not called up by France due to a minor injury. Without citing sources, Swedish media reported Mbapp was the subject of an investigation of an alleged rape at a hotel in Stockholm. Mbapp's representatives have called the reports false and irresponsible. Swedish prosecutors issued a brief statement on Tuesday saying a rape had been reported to police but didn't name any suspect. Ancelotti defended his player's right to travel on his time off. The rest days are programmed for him and he can choose what he want
Real Madrid extended Dani Carvajal's contract on Sunday after tests showed he will likely be sidelined for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury. Madrid said it agreed with Carvajal to extend his contract until June 2026 in an announcement made hours after the right back was diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, a ruptured external collateral ligament and a ruptured popliteus tendon in his right leg. Madrid said Carvajal will undergo surgery in the coming days. The defender got hurt in second-half stoppage time of Madrid's 2-0 win against Villarreal in the Spanish league on Saturday. He went down in pain after kicking the leg of an opponent. The Spain international was crying when he was carried off the field on a stretcher. The 32-year-old Carvajal joined Madrid's youth squads at age 10 in 2002. He became a member of the main team in 2013 and has won 26 titles with Madrid, including six Champions League titles. Madrid had to deal with several knee liga
With Kylian Mbappe included in the traveling squad for the Real Madrid's UCL clash on Wednesday, the fans could be seeing a surprise comeback from injury for the 25-year-old forward.
The defending La Liga and UCL champions Real Madrid suffered a massive blow when their star signee Kylian Mbappe picked up an injury during their match against Alaves
Kylian Mbapp and Vincius Jnior converted penalties to help earn Real Madrid a 2-0 win at Real Sociedad after the host was repeatedly denied by the woodwork in La Liga. Vincius put the visitors ahead in the 58th minute after an unnecessary handball by former Manchester City player Sergio Gmez gave the Madrid forward the chance to break the deadlock on Saturday. Mbapp put the result beyond doubt in the 75th after a video review by the referee determined that Sociedad defender Jon Aramburu stomped on Vincius' foot in the box. But before the goals, Madrid had to weather a furious attack by the Basque club that found ways through the defending champion's defense only to be turned back by the goal-frame. "We probably didn't deserve to win," Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. "But we knew how to dig in during the worst moments. I value that sacrifice that is often tough to see on a team with the talent that this one has." Ancelotti's side drew its other two outings in the Spanish league
The mayor of Madrid criticized Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior on Wednesday after the Brazilian said Spain shouldn't host the 2030 World Cup if the country hasn't come to grips with racism in soccer by then. Vinicius told CNN in an interview that if there is no progress (on racism) before 2030, they should change the host nation for the World Cup. Madrid mayor Jos Luis Martnez-Almeida said Vinicius' comments could be damaging to Spain as a host of the tournament and had painted the country as a racist nation. We are aware that there are racist episodes in society and that we must work hard to put an end to them," Martnez-Almeida said. It's unfair with Spain and with Madrid to say that we are a racist society. Vinicius, who is Black, told CNN he loves living in Madrid and said the majority of people in Spain are not racist, but there is a small group that ends up affecting the image of the country. Vinicius has been subjected to a series of racist insults since he joined Real .
Barcelona will face Bayern at home, while Real Madrid will travel to Anfield for their match against Liverpool
Kylian Mbapp remained scoreless and defending champion Real Madrid settled for a 1-1 draw at Las Palmas in the Spanish league. Mbapp, Madrid's biggest signing in years, is yet to score in the league this season. His only goal with Madrid came in the team's UEFA Super Cup victory against Atalanta earlier this month. It was Vinicius Junior who scored for Madrid, which beat Valladolid 3-0 in the previous round but had opened its title defense with a 1-1 draw at Mallorca. It's been difficult for us to be as solid as we were last season, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. We need to find a solution quickly, and I think we are going to find it. It has been harder than expected. These first three matches showed me a lot of things that have not been working well. Vinicius found the net for his first league goal this season by converting a 69th-minute penalty kick after a handball inside the area. The hosts had taken the lead five minutes into the match after Alberto Moleiro got past a co
