With AI accelerating disruption at an unprecedented pace, IT departments are facing a talent shortage, as one in three IT leaders surveyed flagged difficulty in finding qualified talent. It also stated that the current scenario presents a missed opportunity for strengthening business outcomes and talent retention. Ed-tech company Skillsoft in its '2023 IT Skills and Salary Survey' revealed challenges such as skills gaps, talent shortages, and technology transformation are impacting IT departments, with one in three IT leaders facing difficulty in finding qualified talent. As many as 16.2 million workers need to be upskilled and reskilled in Artificial Intelligence and automation to meet India's skill deficit, says a report. According to the study conducted by Pearson and commissioned by ServiceNow, Artificial Intelligence (AI) will transform employment landscape, augment digital skill sets and create millions of new tech jobs. "AI and automation will require 16.2 million workers in India to reskill and upskill while also creating 4.7 million new tech jobs," the report said. Tata Motors on Thursday said it plans to equip over 50 per cent of its overall workforce with new-age auto tech capabilities within five years as part of its strategy to develop skilled and future-ready staff focused on electric vehicles and other emerging technologies in the auto industry. The company, which has over 57,000 employees across different functions, has collaborated with organisations such as ARAI, Bosch, Mathworks, SAE, and Tata Technologies, among others to provide its employees with professional certification programmes in connected, electric, shared and safe (CESS) through its upskilling programme. E-recruitment activities in India declined 8 per cent in September as hiring stagnated with companies focusing on upskilling their existing employees, a report said on Tuesday. According to the 'Foundit Insights Tracker', e-recruitment activities in the country dipped 8 per cent in September compared to the year-ago period, while hiring declined by 2 per cent month-on-month. "India is experiencing a temporary hiatus in hiring as companies focus on upskilling their current employees to the changing landscape before hiring new talent. However, our economic prospects are bright and resilient against global headwinds," Sekhar Garisa CEO of Foundit, a Quess company, said. Over 86 per cent of respondents feel reskilling and upskilling can reduce unemployment and help employees easily adapt to the evolving demands of the modern work environment, a report said on Saturday. The report by HR solutions provider Genius Consultants revealed that 86 per cent of employees interviewed feel reskilling and upskilling can help in reducing unemployment, however, 8 per cent disagreed saying that it will not have much effect on the current scenario. With the rapid advancement of technology and its integration into various work processes, 88 per cent of employees consider reskilling and upskilling is crucial for professional growth, it added. The report is based on an online survey among 1,148 employees from June 14 to July 25, across sectors including banking and finance, construction and engineering, education, FMCG, hospitality, HR solutions, IT, ITES and BPO, logistics, manufacturing, media among others. The report further revealed that 77 per cent of employees .

The country needs a strong action plan to reskill coal mine workers in order to protect their interests while making a transition from conventional fuel to renewable energy usage, a report said on Thursday. India's power sector is one of the most diversified ones in the world. The country's thermal power generation by coal accounts for 62 per cent of its total generation capacity, a joint report of EY, SED Fund and FICCI said. It also noted that India has been consistently working at a global level to reduce emission intensity to attain its net-zero target for 2070. "For the transition from conventional to clean fuel-based energy generation, it will be imperative to protect the interests of coal mine workers through a holistic approach, and a strong skill action plan is needed to transition from coal to renewable energy," said the report titled as 'Skill action plan to fuel transition from coal to renewable energy in India'.
