Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Thursday said his government is moving ahead with plans to make one crore members of women self-help groups (SHGs) "crorepatis" by involving them in various business activities. Speaking after the inauguration of the "Indira Mahila Shakti Bazar" of women SHGs here in the evening along with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Reddy said his government is implementing various schemes for the welfare of women, including free travel for them in state-run buses, supplying LPG cylinders for Rs 500, free power supply up to 200 units for the poor, stitching clothes for students and "Indira Mahila Shakti" canteens. The government is also allotting solar power plants to SHGs, he added. The total number of members in SHGs at present is 65 lakh and it should become one crore, the chief minister said. The Congress government in Telangana has waived crop loans to the tune of about Rs 18,000 crore benefitting 22 lakh farmers within 10 months after coming to power, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said on Saturday. He also claimed it to be the biggest crop loan waiver ever made by a state government in such a short period, in India since independence. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to make arrangements on a grand scale for the Congress government's first anniversary celebrations from December 1 to 9. During a meeting with ministers and officials on Saturday, Reddy instructed ministers to present a progress report on their respective department's work and explain the future plans by holding press conferences. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday accused the BRS of creating obstacles in the Congress government's development projects, and said BRS leader K T Rama Rao will have to go to jail for his alleged conspiracy in a recent attack on government officials. Referring to the November 11 attack on officials during a public hearing for land acquisition in his assembly constituency of Kodangal in Vikarabad district, he charged that rowdy elements were made to assault the officials. The Telangana government is expected to start a caste survey in the state from November 4-5 and it is likely to be completed by November 30, minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Saturday. Prabhakar was addressing the media after a cabinet meeting during which a proforma for the caste survey was approved. He said the exercise is being taken up in line with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's commitment to conduct a caste survey in the state as well as across the nation. Prabhakar said 80,000 government employees will be roped in for conducting the survey and they will be appropriately trained for it. According to a resolution passed by the Telangana Assembly, the state cabinet has approved the proforma for the caste survey which is expected to be completed by November 30. The actual enumeration, covering every household, is likely to start from November 4 or 5, he said. All the data collected will be kept in public domain, he said. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday countered Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments that farmers in the state are still waiting for loan waivers, and said that the crop loan waiver scheme is being implemented successfully in the state. The 16th Finance Commission is open to listening to the views of all states and consider all possibilities, including their grievance on facing a cut in central allocations despite better performance on the economy front, the Commission's Chairman Arvind Panagariya said on Tuesday. Panagariya, who is on a visit to Telangana along with the other members of the Commission as part of the panel's state visits, said it was expected that better-performing states would generally say that (they faced a reduction in central allocations). The Congress on Friday appointed B Mahesh Kumar Goud as president of its Telangana unit, replacing A Revanth Reddy.
