Singapore's Indian-origin Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh was found guilty on Monday of giving false testimony to a parliamentary committee, a verdict that could see him disqualified from Parliament and contesting a general election this year. In the verdict delivered in the State Courts, Deputy Principal District Judge Luke Tan convicted Singh of the two charges against him. The charges against Singh relate to his handling of Raeesah Khan, a former lawmaker from his party, who lied to Parliament in a separate case. Singh, 48, was accused of wilfully giving two false answers to the Committee of Privileges (COP) during its inquiry into Khan's case on December 10 and December 15, 2021. The case stems from Singh's handling of Khan's false claim in Parliament about accompanying a sexual assault victim to the police station. The SBI YONO-UPI-PayNow linkage comes amidst the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS) announcing a plan to launch two new payments solutions in the middle of this year to support the transition to e-payments for both corporate and retail cheque users. The High Commission of India in Singapore will organise the Indian Film Festival 2025 (IFF 2025) in collaboration with the Singapore Film Society and screen 18 films for the Singapore public as part of the celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. High Commissioner Dr Shilpak Ambule said efforts would be made to make the festival, which begins on January 24 this year and runs until March 2, an annual affair. "A mixed range of movies have been selected from classics made decades ago to regional language hits. It is being organised on a non-commercial basis with support from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation of India," Ambule said on Wednesday. India and Singapore are cooperating in critical sectors like advanced manufacturing and semiconductors as the relations are on a "new trajectory" of growth, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam said on Thursday. Shanmugaratnam, on a five-day visit to India, held separate talks with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a broad focus on further expansion of the bilateral ties. India is growing and Singapore sees many opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation with South Asia's fastest growing economy, senior minister Lee Hsien Loong has said.
