Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Steel on Friday said its consolidated crude steel production rose by 2.3 per cent to 7.03 million tonnes (MT) in the third quarter of the current fiscal. The company's steel output was 6.87 MT in the year-ago period, JSW Steel said in a filing to BSE. The company's Indian operation's crude steel production rose by 3 per cent to 6.82 MT, over 6.63 MT in the year-ago period, the filing said. Capacity utilisation at Indian operations excluding trial run stood at 91 per cent for the third quarter of the ongoing financial year. "Production and capacity utilisation for the quarter was affected due to temporary maintenance activity at one of the Blast furnaces at Dolvi in the month of October, which resumed normal operations in the first week of November," the company said. JSW Steel on Thursday reported a 12 per cent rise in its consolidated crude steel production to 23.12 Lakh Tonnes (LT) in October. Its consolidated crude steel production was at 20.64 LT in the same month last year, according to a statement. From its India operations, the company produced 22.36 LT of steel in October, up 9 per cent over 20.49 LT in the year-ago period. India operations' production includes the crude steel production of JSW Ispat Special Products Ltd (JISPL) and its subsidiary Mivaan Steels Ltd. In India, the capacity utilisation level stood at 95 per cent in October. JSW Steel USA - Ohio produced 0.76 LT steel compared to 0.15 LT produced in October 2022. JSW Steel is the flagship business of the diversified USD 23 billion JSW Group.
State-owned NMDC has crossed 40 million tonnes (MT) production level in financial year (FY) 2022-23, Union Steel Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday. The minister termed the production level achieved by NMDC as 'a record-breaking' development. "NMDC has achieved a record-breaking production for the period up to July 2023 and has already crossed 40 MT of annual production last year (FY23)," the minister said while unveiling the new logo of NMDC at his office in the national capital. NMDC CMD Amitava Mukherjee said the company will continue to increase its production year over year to achieve the production of 100 MT by 2030. "NMDC's cumulative production climbed by 20 per cent and sales by 45 per cent in the first quarter of FY24," the CMD said. India's crude steel output rose by about 5 per cent to 10.34 million tonne (MT) in November 2022, according to SteelMint India. As per the research firm, the top six steel makers -- SAIL, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, JSPL, AMNS India and RINL -- produced 6.28 MT steel and the rest 4.06 MT came from the secondary sector. The country had produced 9.88 MT of steel during the same month of 2021, the SteelMint data showed. In November 2021, large producers jointly manufactured 6.09 MT steel, while the secondary industry produced 3.79 MT, it added. The production of finished steel rose 3.41 per cent to 9.55 MT from 9.23 MT in November last year. The consumption of the alloy surged 13.42 per cent to 9.66 MT in November against 8.52 MT a year ago. According to SteelMint, the imports of finished steel during the month almost doubled to 0.60 MT from 0.31 MT, while its exports fell 53 per cent to 0.34 MT against 0.72 MT in the year-ago period.
